Two clowns shot dead at circus
BOGOTA (Reuters) - Two clowns were shot and killed by an unidentified gunman during their performance at a traveling circus in the eastern Colombian town of Cucuta, police said Wednesday.

The gunman burst into the Circo del Sol de Cali Monday night and shot the clowns in front of an audience of 20 to 50 people, local police chief Jose Humberto Henao told Reuters. One of the clowns was killed instantly and the second died the next day in hospital.

"The killings had nothing to do with the show the victims were performing at the time of the incident," Henao said in a telephone interview. "We are investigating the motive."

With an entrance fee of under 50 U.S. cents, Circo del Sol de Cali attracts mostly poor Colombians. It pitched it tents in Cucuta, near the border with Venezuela, earlier this month.

"The clowns came out to give their show and then this guy came out shooting them," one audience member told local television. "It was terrible."

2. Clowns scare me
There is something inherently creepy about them.:scared:
Maybe someone else felt the same way?
Very sad for their families though.

15. Strange question.
Would I be a "bad person" for not treating a cold or flu?

I don't think the question (of judgmentalism) even applies. Each person makes their own choices based on whether they regard something as a "problem" worth investing an effort to "solve" or ameliorate. As someone who obtained assistance with episodes of depression, I'd be among the very last to associate such things with "bad person" or "good person."

4. They are creepy and I never found them to be funny....
but it is a very sad and strange story. It must have been awful for the audience to witness the shootings.

23. Me, too!
When I was growing up, I disliked circuses and especially clowns! I avoided them at all costs. I went to circuses if I really had to (organized youth-group trips) but I stayed away from the clowns.

Also Santa Claus... I got over my fear of Santa but clowns have always given me an uneasy feeling (and that includes Bozo, Chuckles, and Emmett Kelly).

10. I find this terribly sad.
There's nothing more human than a small traveling circus; it's the antithesis of the bullshit corporate electronic media soup we live in today. This breaks my heart.

20. Me too.
And I find many of the comments here, repugnant. Can you imagine the horror of the children in the crowd. Yeah, yuk, yuk. What a funny story about clowns being blown away in front of an audience.

Sheesh.

26. Some of these "small travelling circuses" were using polar bears and other animals,
so you might want to keep that in mind as well. Years ago, the feds teamed up with an animal rights group to seize the animals -- which were dying in the tropical climates -- and give them to U.S. zoos where they would live in colder climates.

13. Remember when Chuckles the Clown was killed on the Mary Tyler Moore show?
I love how that episode dealt with dark humor and how we use laughs in the face of tragedy to cope.

14. Tragic
As an aside, I like clowns..always thought of them as mirrors of sorts.

You look at a clown and what you see depends more on you than on what you actually see
...clowns are reflections...but it's the person looking ,and not the clown, that cast the reflection.

I suppose that can be kind of creepy...I always found it thrilling and mysterious.

16. My mother collects dolls
She has all kinds. Well when I visit, invariably I end up in the "doll room".
Anyway...she came across this French clown doll...it was child-size. Huge thing this doll.
So...I go to bed and this doll (complete with gold lame and all) appeared to be staring at me. The eyes were really done creepily to give it that effect.
So, I already am not fond of clowns...and am stuck in this room with all these OTHER dolls and this one HUGE clown doll.
I put that sucker in the closet and fully expected it to be sitting across from my bed when I woke up the next morning.

19. I must have closet doors closed. MUST. Sleeping in that room
full of dolls and a clown would have been like sleeping in a room where the closet door wouldn't shut. I wouldn't sleep. I couldn't.

If a hand or foot strays off the bed, I DO jerk it back and under the covers.

I don't look under beds either. :)

I had night terrors as a child...the effects of which still linger.
