A random sampling of some of the anti-Dennis Kucinich comments
Read these comments, most from people with 500+ posts, and tell me that we haven't been invaded. I collected these in about two minutes. These sorts of comments are ALL OVER DU. Kucinich fights for a more transparent voting process, and the reaction of some on DU is:

"Sad to see Dk has gone the attention whore route"

"He is being ridiculous. He just wants more worship from his followers."

"For Chrissake.............He is only showboating."

"Your opinion (insisting on a recount) borders on the paranoid & conspiratorial. No amount of recounts & safeguards would really satisfy you when your candidate lost, admit it."

"What for? I like Kucinich, but this seems pointless and unnecessary. It's not going to help his credibility, either."

"You are kidding yourself if you think this won't reflect on Democrats as a whole and won't be used to discredit genuine claims of real vote hacking."

"The crybabies will still be bitching"

"Of course. Dude's a grandstander."

"Maybe he saw aliens stealing the ballots? This should help him a lot..........not"

1. not sure who they are from
i mean if they were obama or hillbots I don't see why they would waste their time with this crap.

If freepers then they need something better to do

about the only thing i can think of is that these posters might be from the edwards camp trying to convert more DK followers to be Edwards as he is the person whos agenda most closely mirrors DK and his message

either way they all suck and kucinich rocks.

Again, I say, if folks are so gosh-darned obsessed with PERSONALITIES, then let's just turn over elections to the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology, American Psychiatric Association, American Psychoanalytic Association, American Psychological Association, Association for Behavior Analysis, Association of Black Psychologists, Federation of Behavioral, Psychological and Cognitive Sciences, International Association of Applied Psychology, International Society of Political Psychology, National Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists, Society for Personality and Social Psychology, and World Psychiatric Association!!!

OK?

Who's with me?

4. Yes, I'm sad about this
people who make these comments don't appear to understand why it is important to make a stand for election fairness early on. Apparently they've forgotten about what happened in 2000 and 2004.

Funny thing is, when I try to talk about insuring vote tallies are correct, etc, I'm told that I'm a whining about Obama. I'm a Kucinich supporter, not an Obama supporter. Like Dennis, I'm interested in making sure the Constitution and the right to fair election are upheld.

10. I'm starting to think that they've been here for a while
... and have just reserved their most vitriolic comments for the primary season. The tone of those comments is clearly originating from some knuckle-dragging infiltrators. It's one thing to be against a recount for some reason, but to resort to these sorts of idiotic posts reveals their neanderthal origins... they're not from here. Period.

23. I think the fact
that people accuse me of being an Obama supporter when I bring up the issue is showing they are reading a lot into posts that say nothing of the kind. I have tried to make that clear when they make the accusations by telling them I'm a Kucinich supporter. Once or maybe twice all that got me was another snide remark about Dennis.

30. So, there are at least two choices.
Either people aren't reading well

or

There is a group of Hillary supporters here working a talking point.

If it's the first case, that's the internets.

If it's the second case, they are not helping their candidate.

This is not to tar ALL DUers who support Senator Clinton. Just those that show up in every thread to scream and insult and distract. Who knows if those people really ARE HRC supporters in the first place.

27. Me either.
Although one Hillary supporter just asked in a thread how it would show Hillary messed with the results, and I responded by telling her I didn't think anyone would think Hillary messed with them - even she was surprised at the results.

I think maybe some just don't know anything about the Diebold/Republican connection, others just want their candidate to win, no matter what, and a few just don't like Dennis.

My concern is that this is the beginning of GE '08, and it's nice to know that Diebold, or whatever they're calling themselves these days, will know they're under scrutiny. I am really glad Dennis is doing this. Maybe it will give other candidates the guts to do it, if needed, in the future.

7. Obviously, this folks can't, or won't, read.
DK made it perfectly clear in his letter & on his Web site that this is not about HIS votes or ANY INDIVIDUALS votes, but the fact that there is such a discrepancy between areas w/paper ballots vs. electronic ballots.

An example of how petty & nasty DU is becoming.

We all feel anger that has welled up over the last 7 yrs. But I for one, am tired of my "fellow Dems" treating each other so poorly, being angry, smartasses. It's not even civil.

I can understand why many "old timers" are leaving DU.

I went and WhoIs'ed the ISP and that one came from Hillary herself.

She first used it during a personal phone call to Edwards on November 3rd, 2004 when he was saying Kerry should not concede.

Guess she thinks it still works!

9. The fact is this
He has been running for president non-stop for 4 years. He is well-known, and yet has not one endorsement from a fellow member of Congress, and little support for his campaign in his own district. His own Cuyahoga County voted for John Kerry in the Ohio primary in 2004. Kucinich won 24%. He never won a single primary in 2004, and only placed second in a few contests, long after the other candidates had dropped out and stopped campaigning.

He was invited to all of the debates prior to the start of the voting, and yet his support never went up any higher than 2% in any national poll. Anti-war voters, cast their lot with Howard Dean in 2004 and Obama and Edwards in 2008.

Maybe, just maybe, it's time for him to gracefully bow out and admit that he not been an effective messenger for his cause.

and I see your point. But notice how you were able to criticize what he's doing in a civil way. On the other hand, I for one have no problem with him running a perpetual presidential campaign, because even though I probably wouldn't vote for him, I enjoy his perspective. And I'm glad he's bringing up the issue of election transparency.

That's why I come here, for intelligent discussion. If I want to see no holds barred internet comedy, I'll go to the Yahoo stock message boards.

He has the least to gain asking (and paying for) a recount. Yet he's doing it anyway. Keeping the rest honest is an honorable thing. That's an adjective I'd never apply to those who stopped campaigning when their personal ambitions were thwarted. According to your assessment of the situation, he's not hurting anybody but himself, so why the vitriol towards him?

40. He stands for honesty, integrity and a fair go for all.
He asks only that government and business exhibit qualities that any halfway decent individual would demand in one on one "transactions" with another: No lying, cheating, stealing or shitting in their Weaties bowl.

Pretty simple really, but no. The art of politics in America is defending the indefensible and promoting profit and power over all other considerations. And in the name of pragmatism, way, way, way too many people here seem to be OK with that, arguing that "their guy" is better than the other choices, when what they really mean is that "their guy" speaks most loudly to their own personal fears and greed.

Dude really doesn't stand much of a chance in a country where the highest ideal seems to be: "What's mine is mine, and what's yours is mine too, if you can't stop me from taking it."

17. A few options:
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 07:36 PM by ithinkmyliverhurts
1) The posters see themselves as incredibly hot dudes and are infernally jealous of DK's hot, smart wife;
2) The posters see themselves as powerful, politically adroit manly men and can't believe someone who's under 6' tall has the audacity to run for President;
3) The posters watch too much TV and desire the media-hyped horse race;
4) The posters are idealistically retarded (and I use this denotatively, not as a crude insult) and have no concept of the idea of politics outside of bullshit narrative, where a physically unattractive, intellectual candidate actually believes in what he's running on.
5) The posters are just fucknuts in general
6) all of the above.

***You'll note that I left off opinions about female posters; this is for two reasons: 1) the prose above seems to be from males; 2) I am not female and would not dare to project any sort of self-projection about self-projection.

...field dislikes more than having to publicly submit to comparisons with Kucinich on issues, voting record, and reputation for integrity. I think this contempt is reflected in many of these remarks by hardcore supporters, and it's also why Kucinich is being unceremoniously buried by MSM.

Very predictable, very unfortunate, very hard to fight -- between MSM and Diebold we face a dealer who can deal himself a Royal Flush anytime he wants.

Yes, he's a gadfly, and I love him for it. I think he does what he does not from any NEED (yes, he has desire, but that is different) to be president, but he knows that he can also change things by simply being involved in a position to push the envelope. Don't get me wrong, I would rather have a Croatian Elf president over any other, frankly, but I think he is also pragmatic about his real chances being slim. He does this because he can, and he loves this country passionately. More than the straight 'mainstream' candidates, I sometimes think.

Go Dennis. Wear down the rock of history.

If the Dems had as much power as the GOP, many in the party would be just as nasty. There are enough people on "our side" who are okay with fraud and corruption, just so it works in our favor. They only detest abuse of power because "our side" isn't the one in power. They hate FOX news but wouldn't mind if the media lied and votes were fixed for "our side".

57. I'm One of the People Who Called Dennis a "Whore" Just a Week Ago
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 10:22 AM by Crisco
Wanna know why?

I'm old enough to have recognized, in 2003, that Dennis stood about as much of a chance of becoming POTUS as I do of winning Lotto. As did many other DUers who want to see a Democratic president.

I kept my thoughts to myself, for the most part, as did most other DUers who wanted an electable Democratic candidate - because we all very much believe he's correct on the majority of his issues and opinions, but happen to be realists.

And then something incredible happened. The campaigns began in earnest and a certain electable Vermont Dem started getting trashed left and right on DU, from out of nowhere, with people who purportedly, openly, pro-Kucinich were the worst offenders of all. And there were a lot.

The next thing was when Dennis The Pure counseled his Iowa supporters to give themselves over Edwards - a pro-war candidate. Suddenly Dennis showed himself to not be quite so pristine, after all. Dennis was playing The Game.

And then there was The Scream - and the ensuing reaction on DU.

Cut to 2007 / 2008. Once again Dennis enters the race, once again, Dennis doesn't stand a chance in h-e-double-toothpicks of winning and oops! He did it again. Instead of counseling his supporters in IOWA to go over to Edwards or someone else who he is closely aligned with philosophically, he plays The Game, again.

Generally, that fits my description of whoredom.

For me, the only difference in my attitude towards Dennis for this cycle from what it was in 2004 is, I see no reason to quietly acquiesce when someone writes a bedtime story that begins with, "once upon a time, there was a congressman named Dennis Kucinich ..."

The only people we're being invaded by are people with who signed on in 2003/2004, came in to start flame wars, and went back to lurking until a month ago.

58. None Of Them Seem That Bad. I Think It's Fully Understandable Why Some Would Feel That Way.
Not everyone here is going to think he's the second coming of Christ, ya know. But that doesn't make them trolls and it makes you look quite weak by asserting such.

Much of those criticisms in your OP are actually valid in their own way. His recount effort is just plain dumb in my opinion. Now granted, I can respect and understand the position of those who think it's honorable, since I'm well aware of the need for election reform and transparency, but I just happen to think in this case and without any due cause, that it's just stupid. I don't think there's anything wrong with other people saying so.

59. Fair enough
... but even if I'm wrong, and they just believe like you, that the recount effort is "just plain dumb"... why not take the extra 30 seconds and give some explanation as to why? Why belittle it, resort to name calling, and use snide language?

Frankly, even if he is all these bad things, even if he really is an attention whore... I think the issue of election transparency is too important to simply dismiss with "Dennis is an asshole and he should just go away". I'm glad he's pressing the issue, regardless of whether or not his personality rubs people the wrong way.
