http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/First_Age">First Age: The Elves awake. You really have to read The Silmarillion a few times to understand it all. Carry a copy in your breast pocket for easy reference.

http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Second_Age">Second Age: Men emerge, and share the stage with the Elves, who took the lead and shared their knowledge, craft, and wisdom. I'm pretty sure they held a debate in Vegas at some point.

http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Third_Age">Third Age: This was called the Fading Years by the Elves. In order to overthrow Sauron, Men had to step up and take the lead.

http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Fourth_Age">Fourth Age: This was also known as the Dominion of Men. Galadriel departed. However, Arwen gave up her formal regal Elvish immortality, and became mortal, joining with Aragorn to renew the Kingdom.

Personally, I see Hobbits as whistleblowers, but don't really care ultimately. I'm http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Tom_Bombadil">gonna be happy no matter what.

13. What's the Over/Under?
How big is the pot, and how many days have you been off now, anyway?

You're already twitchy?!?

Go to Best Buy or someplace like that. Get a new toy. Or visit someone.

14. It's dueling dares, no pot, she took Monday the 14th at 5 p.m.
I took Friday, the 18th, at noon.

If I even call to check my messages, she knows. I don't know how, but she has a way of telling. If I log in to check email, she knows. Ditto.

If I call IT to try to figure it out, I'm screwed. They all love her, and I just know she has them on the lookout. She is a worthy opponent.

Technically, I don't think it violates the rules to paint her tires hot pink while her car is in the driveway. No contact.

18. Seriously, she needs snow tires.
I keep telling her. The tread is nearly worn out.

So, I'm thinking I paint them hot pink, she contacts me, loses the bet, and I take one of my days off and get new tires put on her car. Since she'll have lost, I can call in.

Win-win.

19. In That Case...
1. Use nail polish or something with a very small brush, so you don't goof up and get some on her rims, paint job, etc. Besides, that gives you all those colors to choose from.

2. Write something that will ensure she knows it's you. It'd be awful if she thought it was just random.

3. Have fun.

4. If she asks me to arbitrate, I'm inclined to rule this as you initiating contact.

: )

Fair warning.

11. Charlie Rose interview
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 02:58 PM by liam_laddie
Last night (Jan. 11), Charlie had Philip Pullman (Golden Compass, etc.) on; much of the discussion concerned J.R.R.Tolkien and C.S. Lewis books and all three authors' takes on history and we humans' use of religion, etc. Very engrossing half-hour...
sp edit "Philip"
