There SHOULD be very bad blood between Hillary and McCain
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 01:12 PM by senseandsensibility
McCain made a very sexist and disgusting joke about Chelsea a few years ago. I won't repeat it here, but it can easily be found through a google search. The joke also involved Janet Reno.

I am tired of our side rolling over, being civil, turning the other cheek. If Hillary lets McCain slide by as a straight talking good guy after he did this to her daughter, we will deserve to lose.

I dread a McCain/Hillary matchup unless she is willing to call him on this at the very least.

And yes, I do realize that it will not necessarily be a Hillary/McCain matchup, nor do I want it to be.

13. It should be - I also saw one that was for Guiliani before Clinton,
and last week someone who said Mike Huckabee was "more qualified" than Obama. Seems that rule gets flaunted... a lot.

15. I guess not:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4053031&mesg_id=4053031

Here it is spelled out in the OP that the poster will vote for a republican in Clinton is the nominee. And the thread runs on with no lock (I have alerted on it.)

4. Well, What Chelsea Should Do
Chelsea Clinton went through an awkward phase, no doubt about it. And many Conswervatives ridiculed her.

Chelsea needs to get up on stage and show what a beautiful woman she has become.

And if she is ever asked about personal attacks, or if Hillary is, they ought to casually work in McCain's insult saying something like

"It seems silly now, but Chelsea was just a kid then and Senator McCain's remarks really hurt. I think it's the lowest form of politics to go after a child. But, I think maybe Senator McCain knows how it feels now and probably regrets his statement."

5. whether she's beautiful now is irrelevant
She could be the most physically ugly person on the planet. The point is, where does McCain get off commenting on someone else's looks? This is more sexist crap that women (and in this case, a child) have to deal with. He also responded inappropriately to one of his Phyllis Schlafly-like supporters' targeting HR Clinton with a sexist epithet.

If he wins the nomination, this is only one of MANY weaknesses that any Democrat can attack. The media has given him a free pass and worse--credit for being a "straight talker" when he's as big a liar as anyone. Go to Mediamatters.org for more evidence.

14. It's More The Contrast
A reminder that McCain insulted her appearance and here's this lovely woman.

The thing is though, from everything I've heard, Chelsea is beautiful on the inside too.

But you're right - it is beside the point. We shouldn't be making McCain look or feel foolish because of what he said, we should show him as a jerk for what he said.

6. You don't usually run for president unless you have a super thick skin. And while
what McCain said was appalling, it ought not to be material to the election.

8. It certainly WOULD be material if a Dem made
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 01:25 PM by senseandsensibility
such a comment. In fact, it would be career ending. Why should our side by into such a double standard? I really don't understand. Please give me one example of Dem every making such a disgusting "joke" about a republican, let alone their child, and being allowed to continue on as a "good guy."

11. Shouldn't be. I'd say the same thing I did when Repubs said shit about Bill Clinton's
marriage. It's not relevant.

and his character is material to the election.

16. I said ther "character issue" was BS when it was a GOP talking point.
I still do.

If you want to consider it to inform your vote, by all means do. Your criteria is yours to choose. I think the campaign ought to be about policy.
