Don Imus Reports Administration Won’t Allow Him To Tour Entire Walter Reed Facilities

This morning on his radio show, Don Imus continued to call attention to the deplorable conditions at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Imus has highlighted the issue every day this week. On yesterday’s show, he revealed, “I haven’t heard from anybody about whether I can come down there and take a little tour.”

This morning, Imus updated his audience, reporting that administration officials called him and said he could take a limited guided tour of the facilities. Imus explained, “They will cherry pick some places for me to go look at, but they don’t want me just going down there looking at the entire facility. I’m not interested in having that.” Watch it:

Imus said that all he has received from the administration is talking points. “The Veterans Administration called me — they keep trying to cherry pick a couple of situations you have that you are doing what you are supposed to do. Don’t think that is going to shut me up, because it’s not. So just save your breath on all that stuff. It’s annoying and it’s insulting and it’s a waste of time,” he said.

Email the Walter Reed Public Affairs office, and tell them to let Don Imus tour the full Walter Reed facilities.

1. Mitchell calls for investigation into Walter Reed Hospital
Arizona Congressman Harry Mitchell is asking for a federal investigation into conditions at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., following reports that wounded troops are being treated in poor conditions.

Mitchell, a Tempe Democrat who serves on the U.S. House Committee on Veteran Affairs, made the announcement Wednesday after news reports by The Washington Post and other media outlets about poor conditions at the hospital and medical center.

Troops injured in Iraq and Afghanistan are treated at the Washington facility.

One building at Walter Reed has had problems with rats, roaches and building infrastructure, according to the reports. Complaints about understaffing at the Army facility also were aired.

“It is appalling and absolutely unacceptable for our wounded troops to return from the front lines and receive this kind of treatment,” said Mitchell, whose district includes Tempe and Scottsdale.

2. Calling the Administration
War Criminals and saying they should be hanged, as he did yesterday, probably has something to do with his rejection.

4. Chickehawk republicons: "MOVE ALONG. NOTHING TO SEE HERE."
Edited on Thu Feb-22-07 02:58 PM by SpiralHawk
"Let the word go forth from this time and place: we are ONLY talking about veterans here.
It's not like these deplorable conditions impact our fat-cat cronies, or impair their ability
to donate lavishly to the republicon party. And as for the soldiers and veterans who are
suffering: tough noogies. Life's a bitch, so suck it up. Do you hear me complaining about the
food or accomadations I have to put up with."

- Commander AWOL DeLuxe, republicon in chief

5. The whole world must be traipsing through there right now.
I've been in the wards of the main buildings at Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval and a lot of the guys don't want people comming through and looking at them.

I'm glad someone is taking care of this. Military medicine has been playing catch up ever since the war began. They never anticipated that they'd need both Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval. All Walter Reed's standard patients were to go to Bethesda Naval and Walter Reed would take care of the war casualties. Then, WR became too crowded, so they had to bounce people out of a couple of wards at Bethesda.

I guess the same thing happened when it came to rehabilitation facilities.
