For the first time ever on DU I am speechless and my head is spinning over this election.
I am at a total loss for words with what is going down here, at my house, down at the local coffee shop. Democrats spitting fire at other democrats. It would be almost hilarious if it were not so--how can I describe it--fucking stupid?

All I can say is there are two people living in my house, both of us going back and forth about whom to support--Hillary, Edwards, Obama, Obama, Edwards, Hillary--back and forth, up and down, reasonable discussion turning into unreasonble diatribe. Lines are being drawn in the sand and duels are being challenged. I thought only republicans could cause this type of reaction. Man, was I wrong.

1. If we cannot tolerate even one attack, you can bet we're going to lose against the Repukes....
.. what do you think is going to happen when the Democratic nominee faces the Repukes????? That they're going to play ring around the rosy? Not EXACTLY! It's going to be BLOODY. And believe me, it's going to be about these same issues, and it's going to be a hell of a lot uglier. Believe me, in this manner, whoever is nominated will be VERY ready to face the filthy Republicans.

9. only problem is...
we're not hardening are shells for the coming republican onslaught by chipping away at each other with gut-level, no-substance attacks.

This is different. We aren't vetting any of these candidates on real issues nor are many of us choosing sides on the basis of real issues. For the most part our backs are up against the wall and I don't see automatic reconciliation post-convention.

13. Well, there's no doubt that the right wing and left wing of the Dems are at odds.....
.. and there's no doubt that this country is going downhill so fast that this has become a desperate contest to get the BEST nominee... and everyone is upset about what was allowed to happen to our country... and everyone is on edge. It's to be expected that this contest to be the nominee for Dem would not be a tea party. Can't you tell how desperate libs are?

18. Well, dems are usually referred to as a herd of cats, but the way we're all
acting these days, seems more feral to me. BTW, it's a good thing. I think.

25. desperate for the best?
I don't see that happening. I see people determined to hold on to the candidate they deem the best nominee, but I don't see much arguing about why one person's candidate is better than another's preference. I don't see any refinement to this "desperate contest."

.... will be the one to help us get RID of Repukes.

3. There's a lot riding on this election,so passions are gonna be high
I just got into a huge disagreement with my sister (she's for Obama and I am for Edwards, at least my mom didn't get involved who is a Hillary fan). I think though considering how disliked republicans are by the general public, once we have our nom, things will be much better.

8. well, graywarrior, the candidates are going through their
advanced training to prepare them for the assaults by the repubs...and as long as they can come together to support the eventual nominee, I think we will have a pretty formidable front to present to the repubs.

Good lord willing, and the creek don't rise...

OT: I think DU is making me stronger, psychologically, because your sig-pic no longer freaks me out...unless it is really late at might and the house is abnormally quiet...and I haven't taken my meds...

7. Never thought that there might be a benefit of living in a late primary state.
Our primary is in May. My vote means nothing. I, and many I know, are still undecided. But because the stakes are not high for us (as many others votes will count before our primary) - we are spared the sort of harshness of getting invested in a single candidate and then taking the slights and worse personally and all of the division that follows. Until you post I had realized that this is one election that being undecided was preferable when being on DU (it is hard to yank a chain that isn't attached to a single candidate) - but I hadn't realized how it (being a late primary state) keeps the peace at home and at work (I may be in a red state on the presidential level - but I work with a pretty decidedly blue group of folks.

You have finally given me a single reason to appreciate being in a late primary state. Usually I just feel frustrated at the voicelessness that we, as voters in this state, have.

12. I was in training today at a job and 20 people sat in unified silence
supporting the dems. I could tell because the training was about deregulated energy and the trainer leaned left with alot of the comments he made about saving the environment, etc. No one wanted to say anything out loud, but the feeling was so strong that every one of those people were going to vote in the FL primaries and they were voting dem. That's how powerful this election is. Deafening silence supporting the dem candidates.

14. It is the most interesting election in my lifetime
(at least since I have been old enough to be aware.) I think more and more people realize that this is a different election. That Bushco has put us into such a terrible position that it is tantamount to seriously change directions.

Sadly, that will not happen regardless of the democratic president (and I think it will be a democratic president), unless congress is swept into big Dem margins so that those dems in congress - even those from swing districts, recognize that the momentum is behind being part of the change. Otherwise - Congress will moderate efforts of the new pres. to the point of manintaining the status quo - not going further right, but just simply stopping where we are at instead of reversing directions.

34. I don't think so.
This infighting is a regular, seasonal occurrence. Like cicadas. The war between Naderites and Gore-ials, or between Deaniancs and Kerry-trons, they're all viscous. It doesn't take Rove or Roger Ailes to set us at each other's throats, we do that just fine on our own.

And if you really want to see viscous, just see Ron Paul-ians. They go nuts on their fellow pubs. Witness the video of one the uber-heroes of the right, Sean Hannity, getting his cowardly azz chased into the closest safe haven.

I agree that it's more light than heat, and there's a lot of unneeded ill-will being created, though.

31. My wife andI are in different camps.
She Supports Edwards,I support Obama. Each of is incredulous as to how the other one can think "that way" but we'll go to the polls, vote for our candidate then vote in november for whoever gets the nomination. No fisticuffs, no blows, just two reasonable beings with different opinions. Wouldn't be the first time, not gonna be the last. Don't matter which Dem you vote for. Just vote Dem.
