MLK Would Have Only Been 79 Today

I don't know why that thought floors so much, but it absolutely does every time I think it. I was born a couple of years after he died, so I always consider him as part of a history that never overlapped with my life -- no different than FDR, Lincoln, etc.

To put that in context, he would be 5 years YOUNGER than Jimmy Carter -- who is still very much active and involved in the public sector. Heck, John McCain is considered to be a viable Presidential candidate he was only born 7 years after MLK.

4. His life on the the national stage was only 13 years. Can you imagine

yourself having to fill his shoes at 26 years old. When I as 26 my main concern was trying to make a living and keep a roof over my head and here's MLK having to carry an entire race on his back at such a young age.
