Debates don't matter
Do you remember the Presidential debates in 2004. The freak in chief was shockingly AWFUL. I watched all three of them and was just stunned at just how bad he really was....and I thought to myself didn't anyone even TRY to prepare this idiot for these things - and then it occurred to me - it doesn't matter because they are going to steal this one too. So as I watched the results that day in November and by late afternoon Kerry was projected to win - even reported that "they" had told the freak in chief he had lost - and then surprise surprise surprise....

The freak in chief was SO bad in those debates - I remember a friend of mine only saw the last debate and she was astonished by how bad he was....I laughed and said that was his best performance you should have seen the first two...

The debate before the NH primary - Edwards did a GREAT job - which did not translate into votes really - so doesn't matter who won, or who we thought won tonight's debate - it matters who the majority of voters think is winning because this is like some freaking football game and all most folks want to do is be on the winning side - issues be damned - then the swiftboating, voter suppression and voting machines will take care of the rest.....

3. They matter to me...
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 12:07 AM by cynatnite
Helped me make my decision in the primaries and have helped this time around to determine who I'm going to vote for.

Maybe it's because I'm not a cynical person. I don't know. But I'll vote...no matter what. They can't take away my right to walk into a voting booth to make my choice. If I have nothing else in this world, I've got that and it means something to me...as well it should mean something to everyone.

With the Iraq War going and the economy taking a downward spiral...my guess is that the voters don't look at this as a football game. Far be it from me to assume to know what's in the head of a voter, but it seems to me that the '06 elections was a strong indication that the voters decided who won and that was the dems.

4. You make some good points
and I hope you are right and I am wrong. I'm just kind of discouraged. The M$M makes this into some friggin horse race and were practically giving the nomination to Obama after Iowa - do you know Obma got less than 100,000 votes is Iowa - how the hell could the M$M make him out to be the nominee with 100,000 votes which is a tiny fraction of the population. And add to that the M$M has marginalized Edwards - speculation or encouragement for him to drop out. Why the hell aren't they encouraging Thompson to drop out or Mayor 9/11 - whatever - I'm just sick to death of it all - and its only January - Jesus by November I'll really be a basket case.

5. There is always a small minority of the population who votes...
at caucuses and primaries. Take a look at Michigan's and you'll see not many got out and voted. Most folks are waiting to see who gets nominated before deciding at the GE.

I always take these things in stride this during the run up to elections. No sense in getting totally serious until after the conventions. The reason I do is because the real fight starts afterwards. When the nominees have been chosen that's when we've got to fight for our candidate of choice. It matters more then, IMO, than at any other time because that's when most of the population of the US is paying attention. Right now they're just bystanders and won't take a side for quite some time.
