2. Holy shit! And only 52? Damn.
I'm not a big sports fan, but this is indeed sad.

My condolences to his family and to his fans as well.

3. I'll never forget when he stole the ball and passed to Bird
for a quick winning shot against Detroit. I was hoping the article would mention that and it did! RIP Dennis Johnson.

14. And he stole it from Isaiah.
As a Knick fan, just one more reason to like Bird. :)

RIP, DJ.

24. I just finished watching that game replayed on NBA Classics . . .
Celtics were down by one and had the ball at their end, and proceeded to lose it out of bounds . . . Isaiah took the ball out on the left sideline, almost parallel to the hoop . . . Lambier was standing near the baseline to the left of the basket, and Bird was behind him . . . as Thomas tossed (and I do mean tossed) the ball to Lambier, Bird broke from behind him and deflected the ball to himself . . . Bird's momentum took him almost out of bounds -- he was falling out and on one foot when DJ broke for the basket, and Bird got the ball to him . . . DJ then hit a tough layup over Lambier, and the Celtics bench went nuts . . . one second remaining, Detroit ball . . .

I remember watching this game live when it happened . . . one of the toughest games I ever saw . . . Walton was out with a foot injury, Parrish sprained his ankle and left in the fourth (after clocking Lambier), McHale was playing on a sore foot, and both teams were banging the shit out of each other . . . Bird ended with 36 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists -- but it was DJ's basket off Larry's pass that won the game . . .

RIP, Dennis Johnson . . . who Larry Bird always said was the best player he ever played with . . .

4. This is really, really sad. Dead at 52.
Maybe it was some kind of undiagonosed congenital thing.

His family must be in complete shock.

Probably a silent heart attack. That's how my 14 year old dog died, right on the sidewalk. Maybe it's the best way to go.

But not at 52.

I loved the Celtics as a kid and Dennis Johnson was always one of my favorite players.

This is very sad news.

19. He was phenomonal
I grew up in Clevo so I'm a die-hard Cavs fan, but DJ was a guy I greatly respected. Those Celtics teams in the 80's were incredible, and he was a big part of that..

20. I feel old
We had season tickets for the Waves when he was at Pepperdine. I think I saw every home game he played there. They had exciting teams that knocked off ranked teams every year. He was a big part of their success.

We'll remember you always.

Playing for the Celtics earned my hatred for any ballplayer back then.

But damn he was good!
