And I thank you in advance!

Back at it, working on my formalized political analysis, thanks to our DU brother, Tace.

Did I remember to say thank you?

3. I would, but I have one serious problem with the piece you wrote: Although you were
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 12:03 AM by Redstone
referring to politics specifically, I have a hard time agreeing that the following should ever be thought of as "a zit:"

1) The dead from September 11.

2) The dead Americans in Iraq.

3) The dead Iraqis in Iraq.

Not "a zit."

PS: This is friendly advice. You were doing well up to that point in your article, and you write well overall.

4. Well, you are definitely making a worthy point.

No argument from me, but yes, I was referring to the Dark Siders and their reign of terror since 2001. They are a horrendous blemish on the face of America, on the record of America, on the meaning of America (or at least what we all wish it were), on the psyche of America, on the reputation of America worldwide. A HUGE blemish. Of the worst kind.

You know what's really sad, though, Redstone? The fact that you bring up three categories of victims who should always be uppermost in our minds. And they certainly are, HERE, where we frequently hear outrage voiced about their being so callously and cavalierly used and neglected for political and financial gain. Anybody keeping their memories alive in the mainstream media???

7. Answer to your last question: No. And that infuriates me. There is not ONE newspaper,
at least that I know of, that has the guts to print the names of those Americans who die in Iraq each day on the front page. A few newspapers had the courage to do that during Viet Nam, but NONE do now.

Five years. In two months, it's going to be FIVE FUCKING YEARS of The War For Nothing.

And nobody cares.

(Though you do, it seems.)

has failed the "Dover test" (Dover AFB is where the flag-draped coffins arrive back on American soil from whatever battlefield or secondary front on which they were killed. That's where Clinton and other presidents would go to meet the plane and the fallen troops). AND you'd see the photographs on the front pages the next day, and some reporter would invariably weigh in, too.

Now? NOTHING. NOTHING!!! We're not allowed to see even that much! Everybody went along like lemmings with the Pentagon dictate not to cover such returns, OR the funerals or graveside ceremonies with the martial salutes and the weeping widows or mothers. NOTHING. Can't show that 'cause it might risk making bush AND his war look bad. No sirree bob. Heaven forbid. Heaven forbid America would be given a chance to pause for a moment and SEE the cost of freedom (as the song said), and be able to connect the dots and witness direct cause-and-effect, especially since the majority of us in this country are believed to be visually-oriented.

NOTHING. What you don't know won't hurt bush/cheney. Out of sight, out of mind. They sure know their perception management, don't they?

12. the newshour with Jim Lehrer on PBS
does a rollcall as soon as they get names. Local people also get local coverage even if they are only local to one of the nearby Forts - Riley or Leavenworth.

8. Thanks, midnight.
They are the World's Biggest Blemish. A huge and impossibly ugly deformity on our country, our reputation, and our souls. I only hope there's some remedy...

I hope, in the long run, that's precisely what they wind up being.
