No White House Wedding: Jenna To Wed May 10th At The Pig Farm

Date-setting: Jenna Bush and Henry Hager, who have decided after all to deny us a White House wedding in favor of a more private affair at the family ranch in Texas. A source close to the Bushes told us last night they will wed May 10, 2008.

1. LOL. I've been to the Pig Farm.

When I heard this on the news this morning, I was a bit surprised; unless she really does want to steer clear of Washington. Maybe Daddy will build her an archway out of brush he cut himself.

Rustic charm it ain't. You'd think she would ask granddad to hold it up in Kennybunkport.

That's where the reporters stand to make their "reports"...

Chimpy's Pig Farm is next door, small mansion with solar power and water recycling.....still a pig farm though ( literally )

2. Good -- Wedding Circus
won't screw up traffic, flights and street security in D.C. It's bad enough every time one of the Family wants to drive across town with limos and GMC behemoths blocking cross-town traffic. And the nightmare when GWB or Cheney attends a private fundraiser at somebody's house in Georgetown is unbelievable!

5. No nasty screaming protesters to deal with either...
I think they learned well from the Tricia Nixon episode. I'm thinking the Bush's wouldn't get as good a reprieve as the Nixons did, and they didn't get much.

13. Oh pleasel.....Like Clinton and his staff didn't cause traffic problems when he went out
It happens with every president and it will happen even if a Dem in in the WH next year.

That said, the only people that were holding their breath for a White House wedding were the gossip/celebrity columnists.

20. Bush is in a league of his own.
No president had half the security he does.

It is the only sign I've ever seen that Bush understands just how despised he is for his crimes.

21. Not Like This
Security always causes hassles but I don't remember Clinton's security shutting down side streets or preventing people from even passing by the building where he was. Of course, that was pre-9/11. But when GWB and Cheney take to the streets, it's blockages for blocks. And when one of them goes to another country, their security is shutting down cities. Did Clinton need 10,000 security guys when he traveled? Or 45 car motorcades?

Cheney flies over my house all the time on his way to and from Camp David...with two Exec heliocopters and two military gun ships. I know it's Cheney 'cause GWB has 3 Execs. Bet that ticks Cheney off no end.

He walked up and down Dickson Street and ate dinner at the AQ Chicken House. He had a couple of SS guys with him.

it was very open and festival-like. The Clintons got out and walked. For GWB's second inaugural D.C. was a police state, even more than usual.

Helicopters, motorcades with dozens of armored vehicles, assault weapons everywhere, even the police wear their pants stuck in their boots, military-style. It's nasty now. It's different.

54. Enemy Women
It doesn’t surprise me that people use gender slurs, or equate women and their bodies with all that is bad, and men and their testicles with strength of character and all that is good. Our culture pours these thoughts into our heads. When we try to walk, it’s like we’re carrying all these buckets around that are slightly too full; they slosh and leak over the top, and run down our legs.

They’re filled with derogatory words for women who are sexually active, and for women who aren’t, and for women we wish would be more sexually active, and for women who walk around in public without looking sexually attractive enough, for women who speak when they should be making themselves more sexually attractive, and for women who haven’t learned yet that speaking makes them less sexually attractive.

...

I see this sloshing around when the left talks about conservative women in the news. They tell me their comments aren’t homophobic or misogynistic; they are just serving the right’s hypocrisy back to them on a platter. But that platter’s always filled with words from those same buckets, the same ones they’re using to fill the platters they deliver to women in the news who aren’t involved in politics, and it doesn’t matter whether these women are excessively rich and privileged and white, or underprivileged women of color. I see the same dishes being served to the women on the left, when they step out of line in some way. That happens whether the women on the left are in the public eye or not. The left spends a lot of time drenching all women with what’s in those buckets.

...

If the woman getting drenched is conservative and we voice a complaint, we are accused of sympathizing with the enemy. We are not allowed to simultaneously have contempt for a woman’s political positions or actions, while also believing that sexually degrading her as a woman is offensive.

Such sentimentalists, these war-profiteering, bloodthirsty oligarchs. When the Nazis invaded France, providing a template for Little George's greatest triumph, it started the Bush family on the road to their dream of fabulous riches at the expense of whole continents of misery.

I'm tearing up just thinking about it.

23. The impression the press will create is that this will be
a "down on the farm" country-ish affair, when nothing will be further from the truth. The "ranch" house is ultra sleek and modern. There is a lavish swimming pool area on the property. None of this is ever photographed. The only photograph I ever saw of the place showed an old ranch house which the media whores tried to pass off as Bush's house. What a joke.

These people live in luxury, and even though the property was once a pig farm, those days are long gone. I would imagine there will be a few carefully staged photos distributed to the press that will continue to perpetuate the myth that this is Green Acres.

53. Outside of People and other personality magazines
I can't think of the press really giving a shit.

If you see coverage of the wedding in something outside of "entertainment" publications I'd be surprised if it was anywhere other than the "Style/Entertainment" section of the paper.

Jenna's not exactly someone the public admires or has found fascinating so I really can't see the demand for the press to cover the thing.

62. if Dubya has his way, the wedding party will be standing in the creek
No kidding. If they get an unexpected rainstorm, they'll be needing hip waders.

"He has stopped the truck this time to show off the "cathedral," a column of limestone steps that were carved by water but look handmade. A nearly perfect arch of branches roofs the long aisle. "I told my daughter, 'This is where the audience will sit,'" says Bush about some imaginary wedding in Jenna's future. "The audience will stand there. You and I will stand here, and the preacher will stand here." A gentle slip of water rolls over the steps and his cowboy boots. "Isn't it spectacular?" he says. "You can imagine when all these trees are budded out in the spring, it's pretty dramatic. The thing about this in here is that it's hard to believe you're in Texas.""
