$1600 to help stimulate the economy if you are married
So, if more gay people could get married, then the economy would be more stimulated, right?

Why do homophobic conservatives hare our country so much?

2. ummm.. it's $800 per person
so two gay people are living together they would each get a check for $800, as opposed to a straight married couple which would get 1 check for $1600. Difference is in cashing 2 check for $800 each or 1 check for $1600

meanwhile - any clarification if this is based on NEXT YEAR's tax return, therefore you are getting an ADVANCE? and is it dependent on how much taxes you usually pay?

I don't have a brazillion deductions - my average refund is $500-$600, if he's going to give me an ADVANCE then I could end up OWEING next year...

3. Support the FICA Rebate, if anything
It's less, but it goes to every working person and retired seniors, not just the upper income.

6. My family would gladly accept the $1600 bucks...
if eligible; but how many people will use this stimulus to pay down credit card, or other, debt? That is a good thing for them but it isn't going to stimulate much, as that money hasalready been spent...

7. I'm single, this is quite fair (as people explain upthread.) I'm grateful it will be so fair -
the way this country runs it's tax system, we have to be grateful they aren't screwing the singles and/or the childless this time. I wouldn't have been surprised if they had set this up so that people with no children would get no money at all, or that married people would get an extra bonus, or that people with more children would get more than the rest of us.

12. I for one wouldn't spend it...
My wife has medical bills, I have student loans, and bankers say we aren't good enough for a mortgage, so it's not time to hold party as far as I'm concerned....
