From Kos: Arrested! Oregon Senator (Smith) has 61/73 yo women arrested
2 women, yesterday, wanted to speak to their imperial senator; obviously, a senator is above that kind of 'wallowing in the masses' kinda thing.

Below the fold is her post to OregonDems@yahoogroups.com

1. well
not really a fair headline, from reading the actual post.

Smith wasn't in the office they visited. They requested a meeting, writing a letter to Smith, and then refused to leave when asked.

3. One can't choose to wait??
For an aide to make time??? I see no reason these women should have been asked to leave. Give them a chair and let them sit for as long as they choose. Taxpayers are paying the bills and salaries, after all.

4. they were told
no aide was available.

The headline says Smith had them arrested, which is clearly wrong - he wasn't there.

There are many public offices that I can't just decide to spend my day in for no apparent reason.

6. I disagree
If I want to see an aide of an elected official, I ought to be able to sit myself down and do that during business hours. For as as many days as I want to come back and sit there all over again. Have you not worked in a business office? I can't imagine one where we would have had someone arrested for sitting down and waiting to see someone. People sure are passive these days.

7. Yes
I've worked in many businesses. We have had security escort people out on the rare occasions when someone (usually a nutcase) showed up to speak to an executive with no appointment, and refused to leave when asked.

I don't think it's reasonable to just show up unannounced ANYWHERE without an appointment and then refuse to leave. The President is an elected official - go to the White House and demand a meeting with him, then refuse to leave. Let me know how that works out.

And again, the headline is wrong - Smith wasn't involved in any way.

8. Never seen it happen
I would quit before I did that to someone, unless they were violent. I don't see anything wrong with someone choosing to sit down and wait, especially if they've been given the run-around by someone. It's stunning to me what people have been brainwashed into believing is acceptable in this country. Business is always right. Customers are always wrong. No wonder we've got airlines who leave people stranded for hours on end. I am so glad I don't have to deal with any of it in my daily life.

10. These politicians refuse to meet with real people.

And monkeyfunk finds that perfectly acceptable.

NO wonder this country is so fucked up.

11. No I don't
don't mischaracterize what I said.

I said first off, that the headline is wrong because Smith wasn't involved. He did not have the women arrested.

Then I described what happened, and rightly pointed out that showing up ANYWHERE without an appointment and demanding to see someone who isn't there, and then refusing to leave usually leads to some involvement with security.

They can see an aide - just make an appointment.

2. In Sacramento there are antiwar people having a sit-in at a congresswoman's
office and they are not being arrested or even escorted off the building. She is a democrat, do you think that could explain the disparity in treatment for the protesters, or maybe its just plain age discrimination
