I'm proud of the Democrats in the Senate, finally.
They're doing the best thing by narrowing that war authorization, people may go bonkers and demand them to cut off funds, but this is a better option. They are actually closer to ending the war.

The Republicans cannot say that the soldiers won't have the equipment they need or the funding, because the Senate won't be cutting off any money.

On the other hand, dingbatshitcrazy won't be able to keep them there.

The debate here will be on the actual merits, not some bullshit about the Democrats supposedly hating the troops and wanting to leave them without money (and we all know that Walter Reed story reflects in no way upon the manner in which Republicans treat the troops.)

1. And to think people want to force Lieberman out of the party
The guy is an asshole but we need him now if only for that slim 1-vote majority we have in the Senate. We fuck it up and he leaves the party, that will do way more damage to this country than having him align with us for the majority but vote with the Republicans.

2. You're assuming...
....that Lieberman will vote in favor of this new bill? I say he'll vote against it!

By the way, the last time I checked he had already left the party, isn't he an Independent now?

4. No, we wouldn't have the power to introduce this legislation if it weren't...
for Lieberman.

7. The only one assuming is you
I know that Lieberman won't support this bill or anything else that the dems might do in regards to the Iraq war. I also know that Lieberman is a independant democrat who sides with the democrats.

There is too much at stake giving the senate back to the republicans - way too much.

6. Sorry - too much else at stake right now
We gave the republicans six years and they have totally fucked up our country. I know that Reid ain't going to fix it overnight but at least I feel that he, along with many of the other democratic leaders, will head towards the right direction.

5. As people find out more about
how the war has been mangled, how wounded vets are treated, etc, etc, more and more are for limiting what the monkey can do. A wise move by the Dems--are they also proposing a bill to better fund veteran facilities--or maybe to support the idea Randi Rhodes had to disperse vets to local hospitals where they will have support of families and friends--and volunteers to help with paperwork.
