Cheney's terrorists "had ambitions of empire" comments fall flat with Sydney audience

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/terrorists-aiming-for-empire/2007/02/23/1171734021090.html

Terrorists have ambitions of empire, says Cheney

TERRORISTS' ultimate aim is to establish "a caliphate covering a region from Spain, across North Africa, through the Middle East and South Asia, all the way to Indonesia -and it wouldn't stop there," the US Vice-President, Dick Cheney, warned yesterday.

In comments that could have been made in the months after the September 11 terrorist attacks, but which fell flat with his Sydney audience, he said terrorists "had ambitions of empire".

Mr Cheney said if jihadists tasted victory in Iraq they would look for new missions, not only in Afghanistan but in capitals across the Middle East.

...

Mr Cheney's speech to the Australian-American Leadership Dialogue was full of praise for the Prime Minister, John Howard, who he said had "never wavered in the war on terror".

4. Cheney had a look in the mirror lately?
Since the Republickers like WWII metaphors so much:

Afghanistan is Austria.
Iraq is Poland.
Iran is France.
Saudi Arabia is Switzerland.
America is Germany.

5. Cheney seems to have a different sense of history on the 'Domino effect'
maybe he thinks southeast Asia is all communist at the moment - his sense of reality with respect to Iraq and his opposition to Gay rights and support for FAMILY values seems to bear witness to his being an original settler in Repug BizzaroWorld.

6. So if true, then why did we go into iraq in the first place???
I thought the administration had confirmed that Iraq had had nothing to do with 9/11?

See they can't keep the story straight.

And why did they pull out of Afghanistan when they were at a point when they had Osama's zip code (as Drudge put it), and M. Omar was still running around???

8. Possibly qualifies as the most stupid yet ironic statement ever. Yes with all the
terrorist tanks, armored personnel carriers, and fighter/bombers they were going to establish an empire.

I'd say it looks to the world that it isn't the Muslim world that's engaged in empire building...

9. Even if this were true, colonizing Iraq is counter productive.
Instead, he should have invaded Pakistan & Saudi Arabia if he was concerned about terrorists.
