Bush: "We've come through some pretty rough times, but things are goin' great now"

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/us_world/2008/01/20/2008-01-20_things_going_great_says_bush.html

<snip>

"We've come through some pretty rough times, but things are goin' great now," he told an old friend recently.

Like his father, Bush has always embraced the half-full view of life and politics. But longtime Bush-watchers report that even by that genetically rosy standard - critics might suggest Pollyannaish - his cheerfulness of late is remarkable.

"You'd think he'd just be happy to be getting the hell out of a place he can't stand," a close pal told the Daily News. "But he's really up. I'm amazed how up."

Bush's inner tranquility mainly derives from a profound sense of vindication regarding the Iraq war. The success of the troop surge he launched a year ago has given him the last laugh over the skeptics, Bush believes.

"He thinks we're not just winning in Iraq," says someone who speaks with Bush often, "he thinks we're routing them. He believes we're doing 10 times better than everybody else perceives."

10. When you are a monumental fuck-up like he, is I think you need to
delude yourself that things are going well....otherwise, he'd be seriously in need of a straight jacket. He can't face the reality of what his single-minded conviction has cost this country, in terms of lives, money, prestige, and misery.

15. I don't see the moron going over there to accept accolades
from the Iraqi people on a job well done. I suspect his reception on the streets of Baghdad would be no different today than at any point since the bastard launched his illegal invasion - and he knows it.

Can we just skip the rest of 2008 and make today 1/21/09?

Who is the Them that the US is routing? Only this moran can simplify the complex factions fighting over Iraq and group them into a single entity to fight.

28. This again betrays both his pathologies and the enablers surrounding him.
He doesn't have a 'staff' - he has a 'Court.' He's deliberately surrounded by courtiers whose primary function is to provide a narcissistic supply. It's a page right out of the Age of Monarchs ... where the monarch's court blew sunshine up his or her ass. "Courtship" and "courtesy" are words etymologically derived from this function. In a psychological sense, a pathological narcissist has an insatiable appetite for 'feedback' - reaction and stroking and a constant reaffirmation of his own existence. More than mere "yes men," his virtual reality is deliberately managed for him - and a failure to do so has consequences. This guy is not even a chocolate chip short of a meltdown. His 'base' ("have's and have-more's") should have severe misgivings regarding not only his last months in office but, even more profoundly, his "post-Presidency" as a loose cannon. I really think they'd strongly prefer to have a martyr than a loose cannon.

...which is exactly why the rest of embrace the view that his head is half-empty (and that's being charitable). If he thinks things are going well he's clearly out of his mind.

Can we PLEASE make sure the kids are never in charge again? Lurkers?
