Obama Supporters Is This True?
This is something that if true bothers me more than all of the B.S that has been getting spewed.

I know guy with 3x posts who cares.

I stumbled across a simple statement somewhere that said Obama is a chain smoker, yet only smokes behind closed doors alla Boehner.

Is it true?

If so I wonder if this man truly has the character and (toughness) to lead. I quit almost 10 years ago and know how hard it is. And perhaps I am tougher on smokers than most, I don't know. But if you can't kick the habit I am not sure you should be the candidate representing our party. If un-true shew, good. But if this is true It bothers me.

24. This isn't from her speech, but she did say it in a Chicago Trib article:
<snip>
Perhaps in no other matter is Michelle Obama more insistent than on the topic of his cigarette smoking. She's passionate about it, partly because both her parents smoked. As children, she and her brother pulled the tobacco out of their parents' cigarettes and doused them with hot sauce.

With her husband, she has been unrelenting in getting him to stop altogether, for his own health and as a good example for Malia, who has asthma. (Michelle said he has never smoked in the presence of her or their girls.)

Her support for his presidential bid came with a special contingency clause: no cigarettes. And he announced he had quit just days before declaring his candidacy.

"To me it's a role model thing," she said. "You can smoke or you can be president."<snip>

16. Sorry Not a Troll
It speaks of character and personal strength and if you can't see that, I am sorry about your lack thereof. And thank you for the poster that actually answered my question. I have more respect for him now and he should mention this as it "adds" to his realness. A lot of people can relate to quiting smoking.

You only prove my point. I was asking a question. I did not read this on a "hit piece" it was just a smoking reference I did a few searches and couldn't find an answer that satisfied me. And if this little post gets your panties in a wad, you will slit your wrists when Bush crime syndicate gets into full gear.

23. At this point in my life I have a problem with smokers.
Here you have a drug/item that the jury has rendered a verdict, IT KILLS YOU. Perhaps you live on another planet but the people I see smoking these days are the ones who can least afford to. You know 3 bucks a gallon for gas 5 bucks a pack for smokes. These are the ones losing their homes etc, (like 2 of my neighbors) because they can't quit. If you have never smoked you can't possibly understand. So if it doesn't bother anyone why don't the politicians that smoke just spark the up any ole time on camera or off? hmmmm....I'll wait......Crikets?.....PUBLIC PERCEPTION. Get it? Didn't think so.

39. Yes he is/was a smoker and yes if it matters to you it is an issue
From one newbee to another I hope you won't be intimidated from posting and voicing your opinion. It was a good question and a valid discussion point. People are funny and who is to say what should not matter to one person must not matter to everyone?

I didn't know he smoked and really have to wonder why he didn't quit the day he decided to run for a national office in 04. He cannot avoid knowing that smoking is seen as a character flaw by well over half of Americans.

PS I'm an exsmoker. Seven years now.
