Buzzflash: Study: Bush's U.S. Attorney Firings "Unprecedented"
President Bush recently fired seven U.S. Attorneys for political reasons and replaced them with members of his "inner circle."

Today, a new report concludes that Bush's actions were completely unprecedented. The study was conducted by the non-partisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) and released by House Judiciary Chairman Rep. John Conyers and Subcommittee Chairwoman Rep. Linda Sánchez.

The CRS found that of the 486 U.S. Attorneys confirmed in a president's initial term since 1981, 54 left voluntarily before completing a full four-year term. Of those, no more than three had been forced out under circumstances similar to the current situation.

The examination is ongoing because the Bush Administration has refused to cooperate with the CRS' investigation. "I intend to do everything within my power to obtain the necessary information and get to the bottom of this growing scandal," Conyers said.

4. A most excellent question
It is Congress' constitutional duty to provide a check on executive power. In this duty, the last three Congresses have failed miserably and may (should?) be held equally guilty of malfeasance and treason with the Administration.

Another question: Will the current Congress do any better, or will they join the previous three Congresses in their refusal to do their job?

12. I would have said everything this administration has done has been
unprecedented, but you beat me to it. And everything done, almost without exception and without fear of contradiction, has been to the extraordinary detriment of this once-Republic and almost all of her citizens. Yet tens of millions of bootlickers and lock-steppers eat it all up. Moreover, all those who have enabled all this are just as, or more, despicable than what has been perpetrated on this once-Republic and most its inhabitants.

7. Full House Judiciary Committee will hold closed door briefing 2/28!
Edited on Fri Feb-23-07 01:46 PM by KoKo01
From the article:

The full House Judiciary Committee will hold a closed-door briefing on this issue on February 28th and the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law is set to hold a hearing on the matter in early March. The Senate is also working to prevent further abuses by the Bush Administration, although Republicans have blocked Democrats' initial attempts.

8. Bush really DOES think he's a king or a dictator.
If the legislative branch of government passes a law he doesn't like, he just adds a signing statement to the bill stating he will do as he damn well pleases.

When members of the judicial branch issue rulings he doesn't like, he fires them and replaces them with someone who will do his bidding.

He is making a mockery of the constitution.

10. And why not? No one seems to be able to successfully challenge his actions.

One thing, and probably the only thing I can credit Bush with, is that his reign of terror has opened my eyes to what an illusion our democracy is. It has been like taking candy from a baby for him and his co-horts to turn on its head every right and freedom we thought we had in this country.

11. It hasn't been instant
The Republicans have been working towards these ends for a long time. They wouldn't have been able to pull it off to begin with if the right people weren't in place in the Supreme Court.

15. Agree it hasn't been instant, yet the First Assclown has not been held accountable for anything.
It gets frustrating.
