Poll question: What is the most important story knocked out of GD by the incessant electioneering?
About 88 percent of DU visitors want the electioneering threads restricted to the GD-Politics forum, according to interesting polls run yesterday by myself and today by Skinner. Skinner's poll may portend liberation of the General Discussion forum.

QUESTION:

During the recent flood of candidate-related press releases and hit pieces, what do you think was the most important story that failed to become a major topic of discussion on this forum?

PLEASE REMEMBER TO KICK THIS ON YOUR WAY OUT - THANKS!

15. Britney is a story - not about Britney, but about the media
It is at least mildly revelatory of a deep-seated misanthropy, a hatred of youth and women, a deathwish, intolerance, a need for scapegoats to sacrifice, a pornographic shamelessness.

And of course the manner in which they distract from anything that could conceivably matter to the lives of their audience, in a time of awesome crisis. If the head of AP sends a memo around about how Britney Spears is big news, well the memo is news!

5. Oh yeah!
My suspicion, speculation is that the CIA "blackout" story is part of the ongoing push for closer Internet speech regulation, along with AT&T saying they'll monitor content that goes through their lines, the Jane Harman Thought Crimes Act, etc.

8. Thank ya kindly!
Not that the majority of DU seems to be able to
take a break from the MSM directed distraction
over the Kabuki candidate "debate" story.
Isn't it just like them to pull out the smoke and mirrors
when an actual crisis is looming?

In case anyone is interested, the Asian markets just
took another fall down the stairs.
Tomorrow will be very interesting indeed.

Funny how the Kabuki candidates didn't mention it at
all tonight, eh?

Imagine that.

22. Village Voice article & press release from NYCOSH
both archived in full here:

http://911truth.org/article.php?story=20080118152901196

FROM NYCOSH:

We are writing you with great urgency in opposition to Intro 650, a bill introduced into the New York City Council at the request of the mayor and with the support of the Speaker of the City Council. (...)

Intro 650 will require permits for the possession or use of any instruments which monitor chemical, biological or radiological contamination. The NYC Police Department has testified that the impetus for the bill came from the Department of Homeland Security. Intro 650 will give NYPD the power to authorize, deny, or delay any workplace or environmental sampling. NYPD has testified that the Department of Homeland Security intends to use this legislation, if enacted, as a model for other cities throughout the country. We believe the bill, if enacted, will restrict, and could prevent altogether, independent environmental monitoring by unions, community organizations, and others, including university programs. We believe this would pose a significant threat to our civil liberties.

Pressure on Congress must be increased, not decreased to end the war. Of course, we can let it be the problem of the next President.

Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 05:18 PM by JackRiddler
December polling by U.S. military finds high majorities of Iraqis in all ethnic groups blame their troubles on U.S., want U.S. troops to leave now. (Washington Post)

MAKE SURE TO KICK THAT TOO.

This point can't be made enough: Iraqis never wanted us there, want us out now, and we should respect their wish.

25. Yeah, probably...
although I wonder if it's some kind of limited hangout concerning the 2003 blackout, which of course they know people like me are going to think, so it's more "wheels within wheels" of deception...

What's astonishing is that they can say it and the whole world media don't jump on them demanding to know just when the hell these blackouts were brought about by hackers.
