SUITLAND, Md. (AP) -- Police believe the death of a 17-year-old high school football star and aspiring volunteer firefighter was the result of Russian Roulette.

The game involves a loaded gun that is passed around, but typically contains only one bullet. The six round chamber is spun so no one can identify which chamber the bullet sits in. When the gun is placed at the side of the head and the trigger is pulled, there is a one in six chance of death.

Prince George's County police responded to a report of gunshots last Friday at the Suitland home where Timothy Van Buren lived with his family. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Two of his friends were also in the house.

Police say the others refused Van Buren's suggestion to play Russian Roulette but Van Buren then pointed the gun at his own head and pulled the trigger.
