Elections are really just about money, and the acquisition of it.
Think about it..

We campaign for and elect people to make laws to make our lives better.

Once IN office, the people we hired, turn on us and instead, set out to see that we do NOT get what we need, or to grudgingly do as little as possible to keep us "happy".

Do you think that MOST people are happy to be hopelessly in debt?

to be without health care for themselves or their families?

to be unable to afford college for their kids?

to be unable to retire comfortably?

to be underpaid and overworked?

to be constantly wondering about food safety, product safety, water safety, drug safety?

MOST of us are payroll-slaves..we have no choice..our tax money is deducted automatically, and most of us have very few loopholes we can use, to get some of it returned to us.

ALL candidates make promises they know they cannot possibly keep..Why do they do this?

They do it because they KNOW what most of us want, and they know we are perpetually hopeful that someday, SOME group of politicians will get into office and actually make our lives better.

We ARE a hopeful people, but our hopes are always dashed.

There is just TOO much money flowing into DC, and they cannot resist the temptation to "make deals" with people who can and do take most of it for themselves.

We claim the mantle of "most prosperous nation", and yet we have not shown it to ourselves.

The issues we argue about every election cycle (which is perpetual these days), and the SAME ones we have been arguing about for DECADES.

There are things that can be done, but unfortunately we have ceded power to the very ones who like things the way they are..

We need term limits for all phases of government
We need paper ballots with mandatory recounts (to restore faith in elections)
We need public financing (ONLY)
We need FREE air-time for politicians (we have plenty of unused channels available)
We need to make lobbying illegal
We need to focus on first things first, and stop butting into the business of other countries.

If we get the money out of elections, we could actually get visionaries into office and maybe we could start to get things done..

We fund the gigantic Government Buffet.. only all we get is iceberg lettuce and some starchy desserts.. the protein-rich, nutritious food is gobbled up by our public "servants"..

2. Public financing yes, term limits no.
Term limits suck because they're no impediment to the corporate donors, who can put up a new corrupt money-grubber every election, but they force the ouster of decent politicians, when there's no guarantee of a suitable replacement.

3. Sensible term limits is what I espouse

senate

2 6-year terms maximum

house

2 4-year terms maximum

*NO PENSION BENEFITS until 20 years service (house/senate combined)

a person could serve 12 years in the senate and 8 years in the house (20 years)

20 years is PLENTY.. and there are MANY MANY good people around who could and would be deserving public servants..

By forcing them to serve in both houses of congress, I think they would be better legislators, and there would be a real turn-over..Lobbying should be illegal, but if it were not, the constant uncertainty of where to put all that money for the biggest bang of their buck, might give us all a fighting chance:)
