Poll question: Are you rooting for McCain to win the Republican nomination?
I have to say I am; not because I like McCain. I don't (although I hate him a bit less than all the other Republican candidates). I am rooting for McCain because Hannity and Rush and other "true believers" hate him so much. I just think he'd depress the hell out of the base, and I don't know how many of the middle he would get; particularly if our candidate was willing to contrast ideas about the war (say what you want about Hillary, she never said that she would be fine staying there 10,000 years).

1. I think McCain actually has the best chance to win the GE
So no, I'm not rooting for him. I'm rooting for Huckabee or Romney.

2. Why do you say that?
I mean McCain has a good chance of getting more of the middle (I suppose), but his base kind of hates him. More than we dislike Hillary. And McCain's record on the most important issue of the day is wholly a negative.

6. If gets the nomination he'll attract a lot of indies and even some dems
I could be wrong but that's my concern.

8. I would say he gets them only if our nominee doesn't talk about the war
Which, I have to admit, is possible.

But as long as the Iraq war is an issue in the campaign, people will see what McCain stands for, endless occupation.

at the situation like this. The GOP will cheat to get their man in. Another republican president is therefore a real possibility. We then have to have the most qualified candidate for the job. McCain (in my view ) is the most qualified republican running, he will do the least damage to the country.

Also he didn't say he wanted to stay in Iraq for 10,000 years. He said 100 years and it was in the context of our presence in Korea and Japan and not the current situation in Iraq.

As for Hannity and Rush hating him, well that would follow. They want a fellow wacko in the White house.

The Democrats have to get at least a 15% margin in order to win to offset GOP election fraud and dirty tricks.

I hope the dimwits in the rethug party choose the biggest loser.

Wait, all of them running are losers, so that shouldn't be a problem.

9. He's my bootlicking, opportunistic, Gumby-like senior Senator. HELL, NO.
He'll do exactly what he's told to do by the RNC and the Heritage Foundation. He hasn't had an original thought in 20 years, believe me.

11. I think the pic of McCain hugging Bush, if it's made a
prominent part of any Dem's campaign, would hurt him. They might also want to throw in the sharing birthday cake with the chimp while Katrina raged for good measure.

McCain would be tougher to beat than the others, but he's not invincible.

12. It won't matter. The GOP candidates are interchangeable...
...though Huckabee's rhetoric is particularly violent.

Any of them will fall to any Dem, though.
