Suburb Adopts New Anti-Immigrant Rule

By ANABELLE GARAY – 11 hours ago

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas (AP) — Leaders of a Dallas suburb that was blocked from enforcing a ban on leasing apartments to illegal immigrants approved a new rule Tuesday to require prospective tenants to get a city license to rent homes and apartments.

The measure, approved unanimously by the City Council, requires tenants to provide information to the city, which would then check with the federal government to determine the person's immigration status.

Anyone deemed an illegal immigrant would be banned from renting.

"This may be in the courts forever. I hope not, but the decision is: Let's go for it," said Councilman Jim Smith.

Nearly 200 people packed into City Hall for the council vote. Dozens lauded the council, while dozens more denounced city officials for continuing to push immigration-related measures.

10. A good question
I don't have the answer (I live around a lot of illegals). All I can say personally is that I wish more people would come here through legal channels :)

2. If they require a license to rent shouldn't there be one to own a home?

I bet they would allow a foreign individual or company to buy their land or properties.

4. If this thing is implemented, it will only add a layer of corruption
as people will forge licenses and /or accept bribes from people who need them. It's hard to believe the City Council doesn't know that.

9. Do they also require the landlord to ask for such a license?
Seems like only the Bigots would be asking for such bs. How is the landlord or home owner supposed to verify the authenticity of such a license?
