From Rep. Louise Slaughter! This Is important! Freedom's Watch!!
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 05:45 PM by babsbunny
Did you happen to catch last Sunday's Washington Post?

There was a very disturbing article about an ultra Right-Wing political attack group called Freedom's Watch that is a serious threat to our Democratic majorities in the House and Senate.

Why is Freedom's Watch such a threat? Because they have around $250 million to spend on radical Right-Wing Republican Congressional candidates across the country in the 2008 election.

That's a quarter of a billion dollars to spend on TV ads, under-the-radar mailers, and the dirty tricks we all know they are capable of.

In the 2006 election, Democrats fought back and we were able to beat them.

But I haven't seen Right-Wing groups this organized or well financed since their coordinated assault on President Bill Clinton during the 1990s.

We need your help to fight back! Please contribute $100, $50, $25, $10 or more so we can beat them!

Freedom's Watch was founded by a group of former White House aides to take down Progressive Democrats in the 2008 election and to establish a lasting conservative majority led by Right-Wing Republicans.

We cannot let this happen. We fought too hard to let it slip away to some curiously well funded Right-Wing groups like Freedom's Watch who think they can buy the 2008 election.

With your contribution of $100, $50, $25, $10 or more, we can take the fight to them.

We Progressive still have some fight in us. Let's show them what we got.

In Solidarity,

Rep. Louise M. Slaughter

9. Wewill never be able to raise as much money as the right wing.
So, if we can't be the party of money, we need to be the party of integrity. We cannot be the party of integrity if we tolerate the corruption that has marked the Bush administration without an investigation and impeachment proceedings.

Why do our Democratic Congress members want money? To get elected? For what purpose? If they can't even impeach Bush who has committed so many crimes, what is the point?

11. This isn't a grassroots group. They are PNAC on skates.
And there's no one on our side that is prepared to counter them that I can tell.

12. My donations go directly to Progressive Candidates.
I have done so since 2004.
I won't send money to any politician or organization that works AGAINST my social or economic interests.

The only organizations I have supported with donations have been:
Progressive Democrats of America
http://www.pdamerica.org/

and

Move On
http://www.moveon.org/
I sent Move On a donation on the day the Democratic Party voted to censure them.

I FEAR for down ticket disaster if Hillary or Obama is the nominee.

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone

13. Freedom Watch defined Members/ associations
Much more information at the link

FW's initial act was the unveiling in August 2007 of a $15 million ad campaign. According to information collected by the left-leaning MoveOn.org, in its initial ad buy Freedom's Watch spent nearly $6 million in ads targeting some 41 congressional districts, of which 37 are represented by Republicans. In an open letter to Freedom's Watch founding board member Fleischer, MoveOn.org's Tom Matzzie wrote: "The revival of your role as salesman-in-chief for the White House's failed war policy is ... welcome. We were looking for a way to connect this mysterious 'Freedom Watch' outfit to the White House Iraq PR machine. And then it turned out that you made our job very simple—you are in charge. This is the 'White House Ad campaign'" (AmericaBlog.com, August 22, 2007). more..http://rightweb.irc-online.org/profile/4512
