Surely our government ought to be able to develop a secure method for remote voting on legislation. And since the vote will be recorded by who responded, our Congresspeople might actual assure that its an accurate system.

I'm not suggesting that they should never be there, but when a Congressperson is enroute or in their home office, why would it be a bad thing for them to vote remotely?

most of them work their asses off. It's not a cushy job - whether you're in DC or your home district, you're working all the time.

"Work" is a relative term. Is it exhausting to have to dress up and do all that bullshit schmoozing every night, meeting with assholes and pretending you like them and give a shit what they're selling? Sure it is. But it's not WORK, and they get paid a ridiculous salary with benefits worth more than most Americans' annual salaries. Oh, and vacation time that would make an elementary school teacher jealous.

Don't get on me about not knowing what I'm talking about...I may not be a Congress Critter, but I've played that fund raising game, and have been damned good at it. It sucks, you're away from the family too much...but all you're doing is eating nice dinners, attending lavish parties and kissing fat hairy asses hoping to suck some money out of their wallets. It's exhausting, but it's not WORK.

You'll never convince me, MF, because I've been there. Like I said, sure it's tiring and the schedules can be exhausting. But it is NOT work.

Saves time that way. Endless fundraising for your next election is not work. I think MF's habitual contrarianism puts him in some strange positions sometimes.

I honestly have respect for those who serve in politics - I think it's a hard job and they get no credit.

to work at home, lounge around in their underwear and eat take-out all day. Then again, the boost to the economy from the sex workers and internet porn sites would be HUGE.
