Or Combined $174,000.~ Do you think someone making that amount of money needs $600 and will they rush right out and spend it?

3. That's For Someone Filing Single
It's twice that for a married couple, i think. So, if one spouse made $90k and the other made $55k, they'd be eligible. That's what i think i read in the Washington Post on CSPAN this morning.

6. Actually, Yes
A lot of people in that boat are still overextended. Making that much can mean living above one's means no differently than if one made $30k. Until one is making HUGE money, there seems to be no prevention against living too highly.

Let me give you one example: A cousin of mine is married to a guy in his late 30's. Good job. Probably makes about $90k per year. She does part time work for a travel company. (She'll probably be asked to back full time when the kids get older.)

Anyway, they bought a house about 40 miles north of here for $650,000. Now, i'll admit they don't drive a Mercedes and a Hummer, or anything, just two modest cars, one about 9 years old. So, they haven't gone around the bend there.

But, if they got that $600, i'd bet there's something they've been putting off or a bill that needs to be paid.

8. Is it based on last year's income?? If so, they could have been laid off and currently
unemployed. (Hopefully they would have savings with that level of income.)

But if they are unemployed, I'll bet they spend that $600.

17. There's No Doubt You're Right About That
Look, i'm eligible, because my wife is retired and no longer has an income. I don't know exactly what i'll do, but i might pay down the loan amount on my wife's car. It's not that big a loan (we paid half down), but still, the faster a loan is repaid, the better.

7. I was watching CNN yesterday interviewing people on the street
about * and his tax cuts. People were not convinced at all that this would really stimulate the economy. One woman was very skeptical and asked how did politicians think this would help? Then they cut back to the studio where the News-Whore on the air smirked and gave some crack about people getting that money, running out and spending it thus giving the economy a shot in the arm. Standard gop talking points. Naturally no one called her on it.

9. Yes, that's about what I make.
And yes, I would rush right out and spend it on frivolous things like rent and groceries.

$600 is about 25% of my mortgage payment, so it is certainly not going to stimulate my economy.

Want to stimulate the economy? Give people enough money to make their houses energy-efficient or buy a new high-mileage car.
