Al Gore could have WALKED into the White House
He could have done more good for his anti-gw cause as President than as a travelling speech-maker.

I've been let down.

1. Nonsense...look at the crap being posted about Clinton & Obama
Here, on Democratic Underground. It would have been even WORSE for Mr. Gore. I don't blame him. Why should a gentleman of his caliber subject himself to such insults and degradation? I'm very proud of Al Gore, and I hope he continues his magnificent work exactly as he pleases.

2. Why?
Why should a gentleman of his caliber subject himself to such insults and degradation?

That's the whole point... sacrifice for the cause.

6. So his 22 years of elected public service aren't enough for you?
Not to mention his time spent in military service.

That amounts to about 30% of an average life span. He doesn't owe anybody anything.

3. He had the best chance in 2000
as a sitting and successful Vice President and I'm sorry but he made a lot of mistakes. I still remember how he walked over to Bush during one of the debates and stood there, getting in his space. He showed much terrible judgement and never put his best character forth. He was a dismal candidate.

I think he realized, rightly so, that if he couldn't win that race he didn't have the temperment for politics any more.

7. Perfect example of how a "democratic" person would snark the VP/Senator.
There are a lot of ileuses out there, you know the concerned Democrats just wanting what's "best" for the party. MKJ

12. Seconded.
With so much to be read that kinda shows Gore being less than true in action, there IS legitimate concern - that there is no concern.

If one does not practice what one preaches, surely? Or when should the message and the man not be separated? If the Earth is imminent peril(tm), then surely everybody has to do it equally.

That's just for starters. The more I read, from various sources, and over time, the more I'd realized he's not so wonderful as all that. And FOX had precious little to do with that, so don't anybody go there. Indeed, Greenpeace had far more interesting things to say than FOX ever did, though catching him on a private jet known to be not-so-fuel-efficient was a real laugh... :)

And, yeah, he could have won the White House in 2000. Pity he ran a lackluster campaign, off the trails of Clinton's bedtime activities. Like it or not, people (not I) voted for that fiasco alone and that had cost Al the election far more than Nader or the Supreme Court ever would.

I'm not denying Al is intelligent. His actions merely deny the problem is as oogie boogie doomsday scary as he's making it out to be. After all, controversy and/or playing on emotions sells. Pity Britney took a different form of "warming" to keep her in the public eye.

5. Had Gore run in 2004 ..
..he would be President today. And we -- the American People -- would have been spared not only George Bush -- but Justices Alito and Roberts. Not to mention the interest rate cutting, inflation promoting idiot -- Bernanke -- at the Federal Reserve.

11. Of course, he has not ruled it out and that could well be why we are seeing preemptive
attempts at swiftboating him.

10. I even heard a conservative couple that I know say the other day
" I wish Al Gore would run again. The choices are so awful that I'd vote for him this time"!
