Does anyone really believe that whoever becomes president in 2008, they will try to roll back any of that legislation?

In fact, because Congress FAILED to do their jobs, the executive branch has more unchecked power than at anytime I can remember

I certainly do not see any republican or Democratic giving up that power

1. How much are we going to pressure a Dem president, provided we elect one?
Provided we elect a Democrat, how willing are we to forego the honeymoon and apply pressure from the moment of oath?

3. I hold all Democrats to a higher standard.
I expect all of them to do what they promised to do, whoever the candidate is.

5. They need to go beyond what they promise.
For example:

When (my candidate) John Edwards says, "I'm not there yet" with regard to equal human rights for gay folks, we as progressives need to be the ones who show him the light and pressure him to _get_ "there."

9. I'm naive, I know.
It's the only thing that keeps me from going insane....Or maybe it's a symptom of insanity :)

4. What kind of pressure can we exert? In 2006 the a main reason the Democrats won
was because of Iraq. Iraq is now essentially a forgotten war, mentioned only occansionaly

For 2008 it is probably too late, because the machinery is too powerful, but the only way we can restore the Democratic party to Democratic values is to elect the right people, and if they don't run, we are screwed

2. I'm pretty sure this belongs in GD:P
But, from what I've heard, only Edwards has said he'll work to remove Little Boots' legislation.

I could be wrong though.

8. Not sure what little boots legislation you are talking about
(yes I am a newbie), but Edwards voted for IWR and the Patriot Act just like the others.

7. Nope.
And I love it when the repukes say that WE are the ones who want bigger government. WRONG! The government wants bigger government. The government's job is to control the population and if it cant do that by conventional means then it is going to have to resort to unconventional ones, like the "Patriot" Act.
