The Democrat Seeking Trent Lott's Seat
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 04:15 PM by BOSSHOG
Former Governor Ronnie Musgrove - "I want to take my conservative values to Washington."

A little love for liberals in the Magnolia state please.

And we don't know when the election will be held. The (R) Governor and the (D) Attorney General are pissing all over each over when the election will occur.

2. Well, if it's anything like here in Virginia..
a conservative Democrat (which is usually your best hope) is still marginally better than a right wing repub. We need more Dems in the Senate, I hope he makes it.

3. Absolutely
I want that seat as well. Our Gubernatorial candidate couldn't wait to set aside time in school for prayers. BUT, dems in Mississippi have "evolved" more then the gop. I'd love to send Senator Musgrove to DC.

5. I'm backing Musgrove
And I hope the special election is EARLY (like it's supposed to be, as I understand it). The Governor wants to hold it off until November, giving the appointed Puke incumbency status and name recognition, along with what he hopes will be Puke coattails. The statute says it must be within 90 days (I believe) of the vacancy occurring.

I think Musgrove's got a real shot at the seat.

6. I'm with you Bake
I'll take Ronnie any day (despite my casting dispersions) and I think the case can be made that bar-bore is intending to be "activist" relative to the date of the election. If trent left in 07 its 90 days. If he left in 08 its November. I fail to see how haley does not understand this. And ole trent left in 07 for selfish reasons. Oh what a web we weave.

8. The MS Supreme Court will decide this.
At the trial court level, the case is in Judge Bobby DeLaughter's court. I know Bobby D., he's a good fair judge, but unfortunately he's got problems of his own with the Dickie Scruggs mess. The statute is pretty clear, and I think Bobby D. would rule that the election must be held in 90 days. But regardless, the losing side will take it to the MSSC, which has taken a decidedly conservative tack in the last few years.

Stay tuned!
