Bless the beasts and the children . . .

Dogs are displayed for adoption at the Stockton Animal Shelter in Stockton, Calif., Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008. In the heart of foreclosure country, abandoned animals are becoming a given, much like destroyed houses and fallen neighborhoods. In Stockton, Modesto and other nearby cities with some of the highest foreclosure rates in the nation, animal shelters and rescue groups are inundated.

2. We get calls at our rescue every week asking us to take animals in for this reason.
"We're losing the house" is no more common than "I'm allergic" now.

3. God. I cannot comprehend this. I would live in a culvert with my
boys. Shame all around for this tragedy.

4. It is just sad how people deal with their blows in life
and pass the pain on to their companion animals.

It would be over my dead body to do that to my pack.

Really heartbreaking photo.
