why is McCain so pro war
You think someone who had experianced some of the worse war has to offer would swear off of violence. Why do you suppose he is gung ho to kill anyone who does not follow america's decree's?

He sold his soul to the devil (Neo-Con wing of the party). His lust for power is greater than his desire to do the right thing....

4. It was his first career
and, like most flyboys who never saw the devastation on the ground, he never had a reason to stop loving it.

Even being subjected to occasional friendly fire as a POW didn't do it.

Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 10:18 PM by DJ13
McCain has been sucking up to the neocons to try and gain support for his last chance at being President here in 2008.

He's too old to try again (unless he's still alive and President) in 2012.

Theres a reason the hardline Republicans dont like McCain, they know he cant be trusted nor controlled, so with that I think McCain is BS'ing about his hardline stance, and should he be the GOP nominee his tone towards the war and Bush overall will change drastically towards a more moderate position.

19. I agree with your take.
This is his last chance. He knew he was going to run for president when the war began and felt he had to take a firm position on it, one that was popular with Republicans. He's not going to change it no matter what now. He sure wouldn't want to be considered a flip-flopper would he? ;)

25. If you think his "100 years of war" position is just posturing for the GOP primaries, then
you need to open your eyes. He really, really wants war on his watch--doesn't matter with whom, or why. He's a sick fuck.

10. Do you mind if I ask if you are a Vet?
First of all, I don't think McCain is crazy enough to kill anyone who doesn't follow American decree's.

I am not a McCain supporter, but as veteran, I think I understand how he thinks. He wouldn't think of himself as pro-war, he would see himself as pro-troop.

It is almost impossible to swear off violence if you have been subject to it in extreme measures. Or if you see violence being committed upon other innocents. Why do you think that Israel has the most efficient military in the world?

13. I am a vet
A pro troop attitude is when you use the troops only when you have too. As a vet I think sending our troops to war for a reason besides imminant danger is horrible. War is a last resort not something you promise.

Also israel has an efficient army because a)alot of their budget goes to war b) they have been in a constant military conflict for most of their lives while we have have short wars and long periods of peace.

As a vet you realize exactly what the price of a life is and you realize that life should not be sold that cheaply. You definatly do not declare that if elected president their will be war. especially not after the NIE report and everything else.

I saw violence, I saw the results of violence. I was not a POW and subjected to torture but I would die happy if I never have to see those things again.

14. Thanks for your service
I agree. I just think that McCain feels that victory can only be achieved through larger troop levels and refusing to leave until mission accomplished.

By the way, I totally disagree with him. History has swallowed up imperial armies. Additionally, I don't think the intention was ever to "win" this war. It was to create an outside enemy, control oil prices and create a situation of constant turmoil.

15. I agree with your points
as far as mccain goes all i cant think is that he is just batty and living in a fundie bubble. As someone who actually went to war, saw the worst and got captured he either learned that violence is not the way or his heart was twisted forever. I hate to say it about a vet but someone who advocates contineud war as a plateform regardless if they believe it or not has their heart twisted.

Oh yeah this war is totally 1984.

Most Repubs that I know think he's too "liberal". The only thing that saves him is his pro-war posturing. He knows it so plays it to the hilt.

24. It was his whole life as a younger man, until he retired from the Navy.
He wants to be commander-in-chief and a wartime President, just like Chimpy. He's sick in the head. Anyone can see that Iraq stopped being a win/lose proposition in 2003, but he truly sees it that way, still thinks we're fighting the "enemy", whoever it happens to be this week: al Qaeda, Iranians, al Sadr's militia, Sunni insurgents. He needs war to feel alive, it's very obvious, and he wants to command an army, do it well, and show everybody he's better than Bush at it. Jim Webb and Chuck Hagel, on the other hand, also saw war up close, and had a more normal and healthy reaction--they lost their taste for pointless bloodshed.

26. McCain clings to war like a life preserver
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 12:51 AM by aint_no_life_nowhere
His greatest moment in politics is when he can say that he opposed Rumsfeld's handling of Iraq but that he, McCain knew how to correct the problem with the surge. It's his only triumph (a triumph in his own mind). Other than war, he has little in the way of new ideas to offer. He doesn't seem enthused about fixing the economy. He doesn't really talk about foreign trade or jobs or healthcare very much. His position on immigration is wishy-washy and convoluted. The only time you can see a glint in his eye is when he's talking about war. It's his thing and he's milking it for all he's got. I think basically that McCain is a politician who desperately wants to be President and his major sales pitch as a candidate is that he's been through war and he knows war. He's made himself the war candidate because he thinks it's an advantage by which his competitors can't match him. Take the war issue away from him (if by some miracle, the Iraq war ended tomorrow) and he has nothing left to talk about.

The problem is that I think he's become so wrapped up in his own image as a war candidate that he might have come to believe his own nonsense. I think he's a little mentally unstable (supposedly he has a very bad temper) and I don't think I could trust him with the nuclear button.

27. Well-said. Remember, in 2000, his only real issue was campaign finance reform--
that was what he was running on, that's what made him a "maverick". I don't remember anything else from his campaign, any other ideas. And now he circumvents McCain Feingold with 527's, just like everyone else.

28. Utter, pants-shitting cowardice.
Same as Chimpy. The PNAC psychopaths were able to use that cowardice to attempt to implement their adolescent delusions of world domination through mass murder, like too many others of their mindset, and they would use McCain in the same way. His fear and terror of "the other" comes through in every speech he makes. It, unfortunately, resonates with other cowards. Whether cowards and fear-driven haters make up a majority in the US will be decided in November.

Seriously, it doesn't pay to try to analyze some people too closely. You always end up wondering "how could he?", when in fact it's easy to understand once you realize that they don't think like we do. The dude has no compassion, or empathy, or sympathy, or humanity. He is America First, and fuck everyone else. Hard to believe, but he really does seem to be that simple.
