Poll question: Win no matter what the cost
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 12:44 PM by fenriswolf
would you support Republican tactics used in 2000 and 2004 only this time the Democrats used those tactics or ones like them to insure a victory in 2008.

*edit if the rest of the votes come out like this i'm gonna use this for whenever a candidates supporters try to make an excuse for an action their candidate did. We need to be open and honest in an election. Always remember integrity starts with you, not with someone else.

*edited for capitilization.

1. Integrity, integrity, integrity.
Those who adopt the methods of corruption corrupt themselves.

3. I do favor swallowing a bit to support the Democratic Party, but this goes to far
That said, I think we need to be vigilant in defending our candidate against the lies and smears of the Republicans. Accurately calling them liars and smearers is perfectly kosher, in my mind.

4. Boy, I'm happy to see the votes for fair election strategies
I heard something this weekend -- Hold yourself high. Don't lower yourself to meet someone at a lower level. Stay where you are and eventually they'll rise to meet you.

And we'll all be better for it.

6. if you didn't care about how the political process is done
why are you here? and it really is either one or the other. If you honestly don't care then choose the option that says we need to win by any means possible.

8. frankly, i don't care what tactics either party uses to win
it won't matter anyway. the MSM has already chosen your candidate for you.

9. I agree with you their
but depending on this election and what the democratic party evolves into I may switch to green or independent. This poll is kind of a litmus test.

11. depends on what you mean by "republican tactics"
I'm not for anything illegal, or outright deceptive like "push polls", but I do think we have a lot to learn about using negative attacks correctly. We shy away from them thinking we're being noble, when we're really just denying the public the facts they would use to make a judgement on.

My standard example is the 2004 presidential race -- GWB and Cheney were both drunk driving convicts. Bush ran over a hedge and Cheney had a double-shot of DWIs, proving that the first time he was arrested, he didn't care enough about who he might kill to shape up.

At the time, I felt strongly that someone should've formed a 527 called "Drunk Driving Victims Against Bush". Families who've lost their children due to drunk drivers would come out and say that anyone convicted of drunk driving should not be president.

Of course, they'd have their own ads.

"George W. Bush was convicted of drunken driving," a mother's voice would've said, while spare, tragic piano music played softly in the background. "He crashed into a hedge. It could just as well have been a child." Cut to home video of a cute 8-year-old girl with pigtails opening Christmas presents in slow motion. "My daughter Jenny was killed by a drunk driver. No one who drives drunk deserves the presidency." It would finish with the text: "Jenny can't vote. You can. Don't vote for George Bush this November."

Emotionally manipulative? You bet.

Distracting from the issues? Yup.

But I think this sort of thing might've made the difference between a Bush victory and a Kerry victory.

We should hit them as hard as our principles allow us to.

12. thats not the choice its very clear
No matter what the cost. Even if it meant voter fraud to get a dem in the white house would you support it? or would you genuinely be against it?

14. No, I would not support voter fraud. If I found a Dem guilty of it, I'd want the book thrown at them

13. I'd prefer Republican tactics
to some of the shit that's been pulled in this primary campaign. I'm not going to say what, because I don't want this thread to turn into a GD :P flamefest. We can all agree, I think, that at least one candidate has done DIRTY, UGLY things that would make KKKarl proud.

17. I voted yes, and here's why...
Yes republican election manipulation tactics are disgusting, but that begs the question: Do you want to win or do you want to occupy the moral high ground while losing yet again, suffering through another four years of a McCain or Romney administration and watching the high court turn about 6 - 3 to the hard right?

I used to be of the opinion that the ends never justify the means, but seven years of BushCo has taught me otherwise. Where dealing with republicans is concerned, winning is the only thing that matters anymore. This country can't survive another GOP administration, particularly when you look at who's campaigning for the top spot on the GOP ticket.

Even without Ghouli911i, there's plenty of typical GOP lunacy to go around. It looks like it's down to Romney and McCain. One is a slimy corporate suck up who stands for nothing except whatever the last guy who slipped him a little campaign bribe wanted him to stand for. The other seems somewhat unhinged. Both are likely to continue the administration's "foreign policy," so to speak. And we all know what that means, having lived through it since Bush stole the oval office.

Siphoning off votes to marginal candidates, playing the race card, caging, Swiftboating, outright election theft and the rest of the time-tested GOP arsenal is, in fact, disgusting. However, not as disgusting as the idea of another fascist administration.

Four more years of this, including the foul steaming pile of repressive domestic legislation rammed through by BushCo and its congressional allies -- on both sides of the aisle -- must be avoided by any means available.

I'll have plenty of time to contemplate my compromised ethics once this pack of vampires is safely behind bars and the GOP is completely out of power. Until then, in my opinion there's nothing too sleazy if it serves to get rid of republicans at all levels of government -- from the white house to the county coroner's office.

Flame away, but I'm unlikely to change my position on this.

18. i put up a more pointed poll earlier
concerning just hillary. It seems that alot of hillary supporters like that about her. Her willingness to do whatever it takes even to duplicate some of the actions of the republicans in order to win. Not gonna flame away because this election has already gone south for me. I just wish we lived in a different world where values actually had a place.Win no matter what the cost? We paid the cost along time ago now its just semantics.
