a friend just sent me an important message
sorry if this has been posted before (maybe it has), but this is the first I'm aware of it. This was sent to me by one of my oldest and dearest friends. He's in a very committed relationship with a man from France, so I imagine this bill is quite dear to him, especially as he's not the type to forward political messages to friends - in fact, this is the first time he's ever sent something like this to me. I'm actually quite touched. Here's the message:

I just took action on an issue of real significance to a lot of
families, and I hope you'll join me.

19 other countries recognize same-sex couples committed to
spending their lives together as 'families' for immigration
purposes - and the U.S., shamefully, does not. That means U.S.
citizens and legal residents can't sponsor their same-sex
partners from other countries, a basic right other Americans
enjoy.

Please write your lawmakers today, so we can stop this unequal
policy once and for all:

1. A dear friend of mine ended up emigrating to the U.K.
We tried every legal avenue to get her GF into the U.S., but even the sleazy immigration lawyer finally admitted ($,$$$ later) it wasn't going to work. On the bright side, my friend is now a citizen of the U.K. with a good job, a home, free health care, a loving wife and two adorable Jack Russell terriers. I don't think they'd be doing as well had they stayed here.

Maybe we should all be looking for love in the more advanced countries.
