Senate passes stimulus plan

WASHINGTON - The Senate passed an economic rescue plan Thursday that would speed $600 to $1,200 in rebates to most taxpayers and $300 checks to low-income people, including disabled veterans and the elderly.

The bill had stalled for more than a week in the Senate. The turnaround came after Democrats fell just one vote short Wednesday of overcoming a GOP filibuster and pressing ahead with their $205 billion plan.

Democrats decided on Thursday against insisting on their package. Instead, they agreed to speed the bipartisan measure, costing about $167 billion, to Bush.

"It's our responsibility to pass the strongest bill that we can, and so I think it's tremendous what we'll be able to accomplish," said Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. "We had to finish this quickly."

The retreat came after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sided with Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. Pelosi, D-Calif., urged the Senate to stop its infighting and pass the bill.

I wish I lived in her district, cause I think it is one the most fights to get her out of office.

Leo Gold had a great discussion on his radio show today, the New Capital Show.
He talked about how Minnesota made the decision long ago to invest in education, to help their economy. So they have high-tech companies there.

He thinks the "economic stimulus" package won't work either.

Economic stimulus is NOT based on consumption.

I just want us to get enough dems elected to congress to be veto proof and replace Harry and Nancy with REAL dems who will act like they have a backbone and not continually let us down like these two have. Never have I seen the minority party wield more power than I have with these 2 spineless assholes "running" the majority.

Mr. Obama Pelosi if by some miracle he gets elected. He wants to sit down and sip tea with those assholes. They will jack roll him like that weakling Pelosi and leave the tire marks on his face.

Fortunately I think there is about a 20% chance of him seeing the White House.
