Top Kerry Supporter: Botched Joke Helped Trigger Decision Not To Run
http://electioncentral.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2007/jan/24/top_kerry_supporter_botched_joke_helped_trigger_decision_not_to_run

<snip>
"It was too steep a hill to climb," this supporter tells me. "Too many major figures are in this race. Too many major donors had signed on with other candidates."

The key for Kerry, however, according to this backer, was that the reaction to the botched joke triggered memories of the 2004 loss and made him doubt that Dems would take another chance on him.

"Republicans aren't uncomfortable with candidates who run again," this supporter says. "But Democrats could not get over their disillusionment with losing in 2004. And the botched joke opened up the floodgates of apprehension again among Democrats."

4. The corpmedia did what they INTENDED to do. Bush, McCain and Hillary piled on
all at once with that lie because they are all protective of secrecy and privilege in this country and Kerry was always a thorn in their side.

2. The corrupt M$M went to town on that.
What about WMD? That was a LIE and pales in comparison to a "botched joke".

3. But Kerry was "insulting" our military, all Bush has done is send them to their
deaths in an illegal war based on lies.

20. Yeah, I got pissed at a co-worker
of mine the other day because we were talking about DemocraTIC candidates and he said..he hoped Kerry didn't run because he said something stupid before the election and I lit in to him with something similiar. Kerry messes up a joke about the troops but bush sends them to their deaths and maims them forever based on his LIES and Kerry is the one who gets ragged apart.

Why isn't hillary out there hoggin' the mike askin' when our troops are comin' home?

8. Same reason that we get in line behind the Rock Stars.....
even though they have no experience in exactly the experience that is needed.

It's because it is easier than fighting the CW that the media puts out each and everyday.

In other words, it is because we are weak and gullible.

9. Botched joke, my ass.
He did NOT "botch" a joke - he said what he meant, he was right, and he should have had the balls to stick to it. Jessica Lynch joined the military because she couldn't get a decent job, and look how things worked out for her. He was pointing out that the economy blows despite the media telling us how great it is, and he was 100% fucking correct.

Think about this. The thought that Kerry forgot to add the "us" and the entire punchline to his alleged "botched joke" is just absurd and doesn't come close to passing the common sense test. A man who ran for president and carved up the Shrub like a roast in three televised debates forgot to insert "us" AND the PUNCHLINE of a "joke" in a speech the day before the election? Yeah, right (the last time this was discussed here there were claims that Kerry used this "joke" earlier, and I asked for but never received any link confirming that. If any of you have one, post it here. If I'm wrong, I'll gladly admit it).

When he came out with that bullshit "botched joke" spin, I was livid. Not only is he insulting anyone who can detect bad spin, but it showed that he didn't have the courage of his convictions. Oh, wow, his words angered some people - who, the idiots who supported Bush? There are plenty of people who joined the military because it was their best alternative, and if you do it now you may well end up in Iraq. He said it, he meant it, he was absolutely right, and he caved. Give me someone who has the balls to rattle a few cages and stick to his guns.

24. How do you know that?
Edited on Wed Jan-24-07 05:22 PM by Zavulon
I'm not saying you're wrong, but I've heard other people say that too and nobody has a source for me. Color me from Missouri in this one. How does someone as eloquent as Kerry botch 60% of the last ten words when the rest of the speech was delivered flawlessly?

25. reporters who were there said they saw the joke as written. That's why none of them made an issue
out of it when it happened.

A RW radiohost had a video of the rally speech and isolated that part and sent it out.

10. John Kerry scares the shit out of the Republican Corporate Media.
They were desperate to find anything to stop the landslide last November. If he wasn't a threat, who'd have noticed? I mean, lets compare Kerry's elocution skills with the Pretzeldent's. When was the last time the RCM made note of one of Bush's daily miscommunications?

Too bad, though. I think JK misread the political tealeaves. Once the real primaries start up in earnest, I think he could have closed the numbers easily.

17. Elocution skills.
Yes, Kerry wiped the floor with * in the '04 Presidential debates (and incidentally he also physically towered over him).

14. I'm glad Kerry's not running again personally...
I'm still pissed about the way he conceded immediately the next morning in 2004. Plus he's like a walking verbal gaffe now with the whole "voted for it before I voted against it" as well as the botched joke. His campaign was also run very poorly especially when you consider that he waited way too long to fight back against the Swift Liars and it did massive amounts of damage. I still respect the guy, but his chances of winning the nomination this year were about 0%.

21. Al Gore was considered finished after 2000
It's only with the passage of time that he's now being reconsidered. If he runs, he'll be in for more of the same. I'm not sure he'll go for it.
