Am I the only one who H-A-T-E-S it when people like Obama and Clinton
along with ALL other folks running for office include in their poiltical commercials..." I'm So and so and I approve this message."

They are aping the chimp and when he was running to steal the presidency and used that inane comment, I thought it was stupid then and I REALLY hate it when they include that incredibly dumb tag.

22. That statement makes me think of long, sharp nails on a blackboard..
I cannot believe that there isn't another way to make that statement. Gracious, English can be conjugated in innumerable ways.

25. Of course there are other ways to make that statement.
That just happens to be the best. Conjugated or otherwise.

7. It was part of the McCain/Feingold campaign reform law, I believe.
In any case, it IS the law.

13. Does that law require them to A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y have to use
that EXACT wording? There is no chance of them using another statement that would accomplish the same thing?

21. So, maybe I'm the stupid one but they can't say something like, er---
"I am So and So and this is my message" or "This is my message and I'm Such n' Such"? Come on, they HAVE to say EXACTLY that same inane comment?

26. Well, why don't you become a campaign consultant and find out?
It's already been explained to you that this phrase is required by law. Continuing to rant about your personal level of annoyance with this requirement is irrelevant and tedious.

17. What would you have them say.. They must state their name and that
they approve the message.. You will see in the GE a bunch of groups form and commercials being aired in the name of some group.. like the swiftboaters.. or MoveOn...

2. Er. They're required to by law.
The reasoning behind it is so that people know a commercial was purchased by a candidate, as opposed to astroturf sockpuppets or something.

10. See above
It was part of McCain/Feingold. If you look back at the 06 midterms, that was the first election season where the new rules were in effect.

18. It's a legal requirement
Thank goodness for PBS and TCM and a couple of other commercial free stations. I'd go completely around the bend if I got stuck with another campaign year of nothing but broadcast channels full of attack ads by that breathy female who tells you to call Democratic candidates to demand to know why they breakfast on kitten tails cut from live kittens.

This is one year I will bask in being an elitist. Liberal guilt can kick in again next year.

19. plus you can watch Jimmy Stewart knocked clear to hell and back...
in 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington' and still save what's good about America. Where is a Frank Capra, who could tell the truth AND have a popular movie, when you need one?

campaign finance reform if I'm not mistaken. It's to distinguish between issue ads, ads by third parties and ads by the campaign.
