A truly classic overheard conversation
My wife and I went out for Thai food tonight, and we ended up seated next to two women who were talking loudly and in a realm on the far side of wingbat. Among some of the comments I heard (not altered in anyway):

"What happens if they vote for Clinton? People are going to realize Bush wasn't that bad."

"Teachers spread propaganda to our children to make them hate God."

"I don't understand why everyone is complaining about health care. Everybody should just get a job that pays 250K then benefits don't matter."

"The media always blame the government to distract people from all the damage that immigrants are doing."

"You should get your Masters' in transformational coaching."

"Look at Hitler's Germany. He was trying to help them get out of a depression. If I lived in that time, I would probably need a scapegoat, too."

"I'm not sure if I should keep undergoing hypno-therapy." (At this point I choked on my fried rice.)

And as they were paying their bill:

"Leave them a dollar, to these people that's like a week's worth of money."

It was an utterly mindboggling conversation.

1. You showed great restraint. That is beyond belief.

4. It was so far beyond normal subtle menace, I didn't know how to respond
My wife is Japanese, and I was terrified that they would bring that into the conversation. I was even more terrified of what my response might have been.

3. If I'd gotten this in an e-mail, I would have thought it was a general
slam on wing-nuts, meant for the amusement of liberals.

But I believe you. I hope you swilled some Pepto Bismol when you got home.

7. I would have never, ever believed it either
I'm still trying to figure out how people so rabidly around the bend would be so oddly accepting of transformational coaching ("That's another $10,000 there."), and I really want to ask the one woman's hypno-therapist what he or she has been implanting up there.

5. It's like a week's worth of money...IN THAILAND
If you were to go to the one woman for transformational coaching, I wonder what she would transform you into. :scared:

23. Even Thailand has higher wages than that
There aren't too many places in the world, if any, where $1 a week is considered to be anywhere near a week's wages

6. What in the hell is a Masters' in transformational coaching.?
I know it's a tough call, but for me, that was their most mind boggling blathering

9. I'm tempted to look it up--As I said, I choked at the hypno-therapy comment
I actually shushed my wife at one point (When the one brought up Hitler). It was surreal.

8. Where on the west side was the Thai resataurant? Chili? Greece?
Of course, there are some like that in Pittsford, too. :puke:

Stick to the Twelve Corners area ... it's not quite that wingbatty - at least it wasn't way back when.

13. Thank goodness it wasn't in Rochester.
I haven't lived there in years, but I hate to think of such a conversation happening at The King and I!

I think the real piece de resistance was the "Leave them a dollar" at the end.

My God. Archie Bunker lives...and he has daughters.

We try to go there everytime we're back in town. (Well, I lie, it is my wife's favorite restaurant--I tend to sneak off to the Dinosaur.)

I wonder if they're from Lockport and slumming. (Yech.)

16. Her follow up was a very dismissive "But hindsight is 20/20"
Then even better was her response about Clinton (again) "What's the old saying, 'Power corrupts, but ultimate power corrupts ultimately.'"

All I could think about was ninjas and the REAL ULTIMATE POWER.

19. I'm honestly thinking they were trying to start something considering how loud they were talking
It seemed like it was being done for effect though no one, including myself, called them on it.

21. "I'm terribly sorry to interrupt, but would you mind keeping your voices down?.....
You see, with every mindless, idiotic syllable you two utter, It feels as if I am losing IQ points, and I am afraid that by the time I am out of earshot, I'll only be ten times as smart as you. Thanks for considering the thinking portion of this eating establishment. Enjoy your meals. The fork is the pointy thing."

I generally don't bother arguing with people like that -- they're less capable of debate than your average housecat -- but I might have broken a chair or two over their heads for the Hitler line.
