Steph does--she was here pretty early on--at the DU meetup at the Hawk 'n Dove, Skinner gave her the prize for being the "oldest" member present--it was pretty cool.

The H&D I mean. Yeah, I always thought that it would be lonster that would get me in trouble here. He just hit the raw nerve time after time. And of course, I was so laid back in those days.....:evilgrin:

About that "laid back" thing---people think DU is oh so mean now--but, in the beginning-- well, I found a post where one of the owners--not Skinner--might have been Elad--was just ripping into another poster. It was hilarious. Those were the days!

Makes me very teary to read back through... but it was comforting to be among the DU "family" posting the latest throughout the day. Khephra was an enormous part of that effort

Check out Will Pitt's post on the need to support Bush* and give benefit of the doubt. While I doubt anyone would feel that in retrospect, it shows that DUers were (laudably)in a place to put country above politics. How cruel was the exploitation of that good will....

I ended up staying away from DU after 9/11 for a few months. I couldn't jump on the bandwagon..9/11 was becoming a wedge issue on DU mere days after the attacks.

I feel sorry for a lot of you people

I'll probably lose some friends here for saying this, but so be it.

The United States of America has been attacked by unknown persons who have the will to drive planes filled with innocents into buildings housing more innocents.

We are at war.

Hating Bush and his illegitimacy will not change the fact that we have been dealt a deadly blow here.

Put aside your hatred towards the man. He'll be here when all this is over with.

When I say "Support Bush," I mean get behind America. The President is the symbolic representation of America. Like it or not, believe it or not, accept it or not, Bush is the man with the job. He stole it, but he is the man in the Oval Office.

We fuck ourselves with this shit.

Keep your eye on the ball, people. This is bigger than Pearl Harbor. Bush and his illegitimacy just fell several thousand slots lower on my list of important things to worry about. Conversely, his ability to deal with this is now #2.

#1 is finding out who did this and caring for the dead, the wounded, the grieving.

The time for hate is past, for the moment. This is the worst thing that has happened to any of us, ever. Bush is tiny by comparison. Standing behind him is the LEAST we can do.
