"How do you get a bunch of ornery, irascible, opinionated..."
It's primary season and this still applies.

How do you get a bunch of ornery, irascible, opinionated,

diverse, outspoken, bleeding-heart and in-your-face democrats/liberals/progressives/(insert favorite label here) to come together?

Give them the chance to make someone feel good. Give them a chance to do good for someone else. This heart-athon is the evidence I present to you. (Yes, it's not a scientific study. For today, it's good enough.)

Compare that to the Rolling Stones article in which the author noted that the best way to bring neo-cons together was to give them a common enemy.

THAT, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, is what I see as the fundamental difference between 'us' and 'them'. We look for the common friend. They look for the common enemy.

I like our way better.

5. Our legislative district chair is a pretty good cat herder
Whenever discussion gets contentious, she just bangs the gavel and says "Everybody PLEASE take a deep breath, and remember that if we wanted to march in lockstep, we'd be Republicans."

7. How very Edwin Markham.
He drew a circle that shut me out
Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.
But love and I had the wit to win.
We drew a circle that took him in.

That was the poem on my sister's wedding invitation. The first marriage. The really bad marriage.

Something you might want to remember while you're still so dewy-eyed.

9. Have john mc Cain choose joe LIE-berman as his running mate...
That'll get just about every Liberal, Leftist etc out behind anyone whose name is not zell miller, ed koch, ron silver or blanche lincoln.

Sorry people...I will NEVER forgive blanche "I've always relied on the kindness of traitors" lincoln for kissing lying joe LIE-berman the Vichy Dem
