Two killed in Iran embassy bomb, 37 dead in mosque attack
dpa German Press Agency
Published: Sunday February 25, 2007

Baghdad- Two people were killed and four were wounded when
an explosives-laden bus detonated in a parking lot in front of the
Iranian embassy in central Baghdad, witnesses said Sunday.
According to the witnesses, the bomb went off when small bus was
parked in the Salihiya area, near Jomhouriya bridge where the embassy
is located.

Police cordoned off the area and ambulances were seen rushing to
the scene.

Earlier Sunday, Iraqi police sources said that the death toll
stood at 37 after an attack on a Sunni mosque west of Baghdad.

Another 64 people were wounded in the apparent truck bombing
Saturday outside a mosque in Habbaniyah, about 65 kilometres west of
the capital, Iraqi media reported, citing police.

A school, a police station and a popular marketplace were all near
the mosque, which was struck as worshippers left the building. US
military sources in Iraq described it as a suicide attack.

A suicide bomber wearing a vest packed with explosives killed 40 people in a Baghdad college on Sunday, a day after Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki expressed optimism about a security crackdown in the capital.

Guards stopped the bomber in the reception lobby of the Baghdad Economy and Administration College but the man managed to blow himself up, police said.

Police put the death toll at 40, with 35 people wounded. Most of the victims were students, witnesses said.
