So what's up with the boxing glove race at the top of the page?
Are we having a contest between Hillary and Obama supporters?

6. I don't know.
I didn't donate "through the gloves" so maybe I missed something. If you click on either one of them it goes to the same place -- or it looks like the same place anyway. I could be wrong.

What was the question?

9. Then why are the gloves positioned like that?
Seems like they should be in the same place, ready to give McCain the double whammy at the appropriate moment.

14. Dunno. It's just a "Dems beat McCain" graphic to me, in a typical boxing position -- one fist
leading.

I just had fun giving out hearts, and didn't worry about the graphic.

16. It's going to change
The gloves will switch positions back and forth as the fund drive goes on. We figured someone would make a fuss about it so when he created the graphics, Skinner actually sat there and made sure that each glove would spend EXACTLY THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME at the front. I'm not kidding.

17. It's still a sore reminder...
...of the deep and unabiding division between HRC and BHO supporters here. Bad idea, IMO, really bad idea. Go back to a single glove.

Not everyone's going to see your post either, Earl -- a lot of folks are going to think it is a competition between the two camps.

similarities. People are expecting miracles out of this grinding political process that started earlier than any other I can remember. However, I still believe we have TWO VIABLE CANDIDATES. Do you agree?

Here's our real enemy (Illustration.)

One Smirking Chimp/Chimpster Nation member had this to say:

It's still better than a lot of sites
I agree there are problems, but that's part and parcel of the online world. There are people with sad little lives who sit in their pathetic rooms and type all sorts of garbage. Trying to cull them all out is daunting.

Still, SC is still better than some of the other "progressive sites." You can still have a reasonable discussion. Some other boards resemble a chat room more than anything else -- with people posting off-topic sentence fragments or sharing recipes. HuffPo comments, for example, are just crap. AmericaBlog is pretty stupid. DU is a bunch of DLC-Nazis shrieking at anyone who doesn't spout the current DLC line.

On another topic:

Do you believe Orwell's prophecy, or is this circular reasoning?

"Who controls the past controls the future;
who controls the present controls the past."
- George Orwell

You guys KNOW what kind uproar would ensue around here if you didn't do that!

31. I figured it would have been thought out to that point
I see that they even switch which one is on top.

It's a shame that much effort has to be put into a simple graphic, lest the pitchforks come out.

Gravel, awoke a new generation to his historic battle
that ended the last unjust war, that damn Vietnam war.

If you listen to Gavel he sounds like Howard Beale from the Movie Network

who told us another truth back then

Beale: I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's worth; banks are going bust; shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter; punks are running wild in the street, and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it.

We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat. And we sit watching our TVs while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be!

We all know things are bad -- worse than bad -- they're crazy.

It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out any more. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we're living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, "Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials, and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone."

Well, I'm not going to leave you alone.

I want you to get mad!

You've gotta say, "I'm a human being, goddammit! My life has value!"

So, I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window, open it, and stick your head out and yell,
I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Too bad, we have so few like that in Congress that stand up these days and scream the truth

28. Wow. I have to use that to tell the PBS station that has funded a radio reading service since 1975
but is now telling the 100 people who volunteer and at least one legally blind employee -- that they can't find the money to keep the service going after February 2009. If it isn't working, then I have suggestions on how to make it work!

Public broadcasting takes in millions, but the question is: can a local affiliate re-imagine the service for HD or Internet radio or one of the three TV channels they will have access to (but don't have to use) starting on February 17, 2009?

I'm girding my loins (can a woman do that?) for a struggle, but feel compelled to proceed on course until they pull the plug.

But I'm not going quietly.

If you want to join the fray, please PM me.
