Senator Chris Dodd - The Newest American Hero
Edited on Mon Feb-11-08 08:44 PM by themartyred
I am in awe of his words on C-Span 2 ongoing live.

I commend him for clarity, honor, and a resolve in standing up for what this country stands for - and what this country stands against.

We do not approve of flooding the lungs of captives with water, to the point of near death, to extract whatever we want them to say.

We do not approve of our communications giants, who work and serve at our request, to tape, record, copy our emails, texts, and phone calls, and divulge them wholesale to the NSA.

We do not approve of a roque president who believes he is the ultimate decision maker in our government.

As Senator Dodd spoke similarly about just minutes go, in referring to words spoken in 1980 by Ronald Reagan, and why I reference it this way now - we do not put trust in one man, or one party - because we know that we cannot trust man or party. We must collectively use the law, stand up for it to be followed, and help prevent these two grave issues from being swept under the rug (torture & spying immunity) just because the B*sh Administration says "trust me" that laws weren't broken, and that one man, the current pResident, can go do as he pleases, even if it ignores and breaks numerous laws.

His speech is amazing tonight, as I am typing - and he is hitting all points that need addressed with righteous indignation!

I SALUTE YOU CHRIS DODD!

1. "When do you say enough is ENOUGH!?"
He just went on a big tear as I finished my comment. My God, he is amazing and on fire, I wish this was being broadcast on all TV stations.

4. I'm so glad you're watching gateley
these past 10 minutes have been unbelievable...

I feel that Olbermann should give 5 minutes of time on his program to highlight the biggest points Sen. Dodd is making... it's amazing.

9. I've been watching for hours - including at least an hour of just listening
to C-Span Plays The Classics.

Here's another thread where we're discussing it: (lacking your heartfelt and moving tribute):

Olbermann would have to give more than 5 minutes -- Dodd is hitting home run after home run!

He argued previously today, when they were each given time limits.

Am I correct in assuming that he's doing this now in order to get it all into the congressional record?

Thanks!

15. you got it!
great time actually... and I love what he just said about who's responsibility to determine if wiretapping was warranted -

"It's what the COURTS ARE FOR it's basic 101 stuff! We're overstepping our boundaries here! To allow a president of any party to invade privacy of Americans and not challenge that is an incredible precedent of historical proportions - important, basic, and fundamental as anything we'll ever do!" 14. I believe he's doing this to try and prevent the bill from going forward
to attempt to get a few on the opposite side of this to wake up that this is a BAD bill the way it is written, because it does no good to give them immunity (in fact it lets them off the hook for the biggest illegal action of privacy invasion in our history). I hear that John Edwards was on Countdown (I don't get MSNBC), and I await Hissyspit's video upload. I love John, and I imagined him sitting their nodding at Chris' comments, and lookie there, he's on Keith's show talking about this very issue!!!! WOOHOO!

17. But he's all alone on the Senate floor right now, everybody else has gone home.
It's a shame for him to expend all this energy -- and I mean energy! -- with nobody there except the staff. You can tell how DEEPLY he cares and how outraged he is.

I'd love him to be able to say this face to face to Bush!

I don't get MSNBC either -- hissyspit is my supplier, too! :)

well, he's doing it for the fact of standing up for what he can do with the power he has - and that allows him to be standing there in the Senate so it is recorded, and for several million people worldwide to be hearing this for ammo.

35. Well I heard the reason HRC and Obama were chosen (besides the obvious
historical reasons) is that they had the biggest war chests meaning their campaigns had more money to spend on advertising.

40. Yeah. It kind of made sense, since all they are is for-profit corporations now.
I always thought they focused on Hillary and Obama because of the excitement regarding them, meaning more people would tune in, meaning higher ratings and more advertising dollars and revenue.

Either way, bottom line is money for the media.

As much as I like both our candidates, there were some I feel were better suited to lead us during this fragile time in our history.

He was on fire. And he brought every point we have been bringing up for months. But I think he was talking to himself, I don't think there were any other Senators there listening. What a shame to waste such a great speech. Hopefully the american people were listening, but I fear far too few people were, and the MSM is not going to cover it.

then a future generation will possibly look back to his comments in the Senate chamber as something that said the people were still represented by a few select wise and trustworthy men & women who placed the citizenry and the Constitution above the rule of the president.
