"Warring for our Country" - frightening article from Charisma- a Christian Mag
I receive, through my work several offers of free magazines.

I signed up for this Christian one called 'Charisma' as I am a Christian and do believe in the Lord.

Reading the editorial of the last issue, though made me quite angry.

http://www.charismamag.com/display.php?id=14677

It talked about how our country is engaged in a war with Islam, but in the West, they are in a cultural war. To me, half of this article reeked of RW talking points. It went on to state that the direction of our nation will be determined in part by the president elected in 2008 and how crucial it is to put the right person in office. It even mentioned the (alleged) liberal media.

The article told about several of the Republican candidates who would be a fine choice, and then of some of the Democratic hopefuls. Yep, Juliani, Romney and Brownback.

It did list some of the democratic candidates, Hillary and Obama. At least they didn't say Osama!

But they even repeated the lie about Obama being a Muslim early on in his life and suggested the Obama should be afraid of assasination as that is the punishment for Muslims who renounce their faith, according to them.

Is is just me? Am I just being too sensitive? I think that we all want a good man, with good character for our next leader. But there have been many good "Christian", who have not carried the message of Jesus in their lives.

3. Yikes. You are not being too sensitive at all.

That is a thinly disguised hit piece on Obama. They didn't call him Osama but check out how they printed his full name, including full middle name and even "Jr." at the end. Yet Brownback was just "Sam Brownback" and Guliani was just "Rudy Giuliani."

Read further and you can see at the end:

And visit our Web site (www. charismamag. com/strang) to link to more information about Obama and the 2008 election. You can post your own opinions or send a letter to the editor. You can also sign up to receive our weekly e-newsletter for intercessors that contains important information and topics for prayer.

I would suggest that anyone who can stomach it, sign up for the weekly e-newsletter, to keep tabs on what they are up to. Is this organization tax-exempt? If so, I think they might be perilously close to violating the rules of that status. I don't know how big they are or how much influence they have, but anyone who has legal connections with an interest in this sort of thing, might want to monitor them.

Edited to kill the link. Copy, paste, remove the spaces if you want to go there. Ugh.

4. i'm christian too -- but by no means a literalist.
these people are trying to suffocate both the faith AND the country with their willfull ignorance.

there is a barely controlled violence just below the surface -- see this thread as well -- http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=229x6477

5. creepy
and what is worse is that so many of these people are brainwashed by their churches.

I think that too many who are into the Church are into 'mans message'- not Gods word and about doing what their pastor says.

Yep, willful ignorance sums it up pretty well...

6. They are dupes.
Bushco has whipped them into an anti-muslim frenzy to get the political capital to attack Iraq, Iran & Syria. Yes they are muslim countries...

But who are some of Bushco's biggest allies? The Wahabbis and the oil monarchies and the north african countries where detainees are renditioned for "aggresive" interrogation. The islamophobia is just for domestic consumption (remember how B*sh never used the term "islamic fascism" again after his buddies the Saudis complained...).

7. Ugh - "we are engaged in serious spiritual warfare"
That's a creepy website. It's certainly a Democrat-bashing, Republican-supporting piece - it implies Christian 'values' are about abortion and sexuality, and nothing else. It seem to regard 'liberal' as a bad thing.

No surprise, given this piece on the author and publisher:

Keeper of "The Faith": Invitations to the White House are becoming regular occurrences for Stephen Strang. The former journalist, 54, has been a Bush favorite ever since his homegrown Christian publishing house, Strang Communications, released The Faith of George W. Bush, the first spiritual biography of the President, in 2003. "We didn't write it to help Bush, but it no doubt helped elect him," declares Strang.

In the world of Christian publishing, Strang combines a sense of mission with sharp business acumen. Over the past 30 years, he has built his company, based in Lake Mary, Fla., into a $33 million business that churns out seven magazines and 100 books a year. Niche offerings like The Bible Cure health series are wildly successful, but the company is seeking more crossover hits like G.P. Taylor's Shadowmancer, which has been hailed as Harry Potter's "Christian cousin." Strang's lead publication, Charisma, chronicles the fast-growing charismatic movement and has become powerful enough to wrangle a Bush interview last year.

He has 'Bush supporter' written right through him.
