now that Edwards is gone, the issue is invisible again, except of course to the hundreds of thousands joining the ranks of the poor every day.

I emailed my Rep, and both Senators.

It's interesting to see what they consider important by the list of topics you are asked to choose from on their web contact forms. None had "Poverty" or "Homelessness" as topics.

Lots of scary shit in this proposed budget. Cuts in programs for the homeless PLUS cuts that could lead to more homelessness.

-"The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program would be cut by $570 million, a 22% cut from FY08 levels."
-"The Section 202 program for elderly persons would lose approximately $196 million and housing for persons with disabilities would be cut by $78 million under the proposed FY09 budget."
-"Community Development Block Grants would be cut by $659 million."
-"The President proposed to reduce funding for programs under the Violence Against Women Act by $120 million."
-"The President also would eliminate funding for the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Fund - a $2 billion cut."

That's petty cash to the D.C. lobbyists....

has a sucky format, making it more difficult to sign. There are many action alerts where the program asks you for your information, then sends it to your representative.

Do they really want people to sign?

there was another action alert that used this type format. I wrote to them and asked them why and if they would consider a much easier to navigate format. I included a link to the easier format.

They wrote back w/a changed format and thanked me.

There are many busy people that do not have the time to spend hours and hours on the internet. Moreover, many of those are not very internet savvy. If they want a lot of signatures, then make it easier for everyone.

Those who don't will find any handy excuse.

is that the organization really doesn't want that many people to contact their representatives. Only people that have the time and the knowledge of the internet will.

A piss poor way of organizing, IMHO.

P.S. I am below the poverty level.

If you "liberals" actually WANT to take action, you will.

If you don't, you will piss and moan about the "organization".

:eyes: WTH is that suppose to mean? Maybe one day you will learn that you can catch more flies w/honey than w/vinegar. But I won't hold my breath.

My whole point was the organization could achieve far more w/an easier to navigate format than the one they are using. Isn't that what you want? More people taking action will bring more results.

Lookit bobbolink, you are not the only poor person on this site. I am poor, plus I am paralyzed. I want to find solutions to help as many people as possible. One solution would be to get more and more people involved by making a switch in format.

But you go ahead and bitch. It seems to me that is what you live for.

This is so important, I hope everybody realizes this and takes action!!
