I edited the original post cause I thought it was 43 mill. It's actually 143 mill. Sorry.

If my math is right, that's about 124,000 cows.

Damn.

3. The average pounds of beef produced per cow is closer to 650.
Just one of those weird things you learn living in ranch country.

9. Thank you
That is what I was wondering.

Boy that is a lot of prions on the hoof.

Tell me, what do you think the political, legal and practical ramifications of a massive epidemic of C-J syndrome?

I can't help but think that it might be a bad thing.

4. >>>38000 that were long gone before the recall...
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 09:45 AM by hlthe2b
this is for show... I still eat beef occasionally, but know that we are far more vulnerable to BSE (mad cow) slipping into the food supply than will ever be acknowledged. Downer cows that are not tested but snuck in-- a perfect way for that to happen.

5. Be more then that.
There is an amount of waste in beef production, fat, bone, etc. The really sad part is by the time a recall is announced the products have probably already been consumed. There are deliberate delays built into the system.
