Washington, DC (AHN) -

A helicopter carrying high senior members of the United States Senate has made an emergency landing in Afghanistan.

Preliminary reports indicate that a helicopter carrying Sens. John Kerry (D-MA), Joe Biden (D-DE) and Chuck Hagel (R-NE)
was forced to make an emergency landing due to inclement weather. No injuries have been reported.

The three lawmakers are on a week-long trip that includes stops in Afghanistan, India, Turkey, and Pakistan.

AHN will continue to report on the story as details emerge.

Afghan Snow Forces Helicopters Carrying U.S. Senators to Land

Feb. 21 (Bloomberg) --

Snow forced helicopters carrying U.S. Senators John Kerry, Chuck Hagel and Joe Biden to make
an unscheduled landing in the mountains of Afghanistan early today, a Kerry spokesman said.

David Wade, the spokesman, said no one was hurt and that U.S. troops evacuated the lawmakers
to the American air base at Bagram, near the capital, Kabul. From Bagram, Kerry, a Massachusetts
Democrat, Biden, a Delaware Democrat, and Hagel, a Nebraska Republican, traveled to their next
stop, Ankara, Turkey, he said.

``Everyone is safe,'' Wade said in an e-mailed statement.

The lawmakers are traveling during the week-long congressional recess in observance of the Presidents'
Day U.S. holiday. Biden is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on which the other two
senators also serve.

8. Thank goodness the pilots had the guts to land.
Flying into the side of a mountain anytime, especially with VIPs in your charge, is bad form. I think back to the USAF C-43 (Boeing 737) that smacked a mountain with Ron Brown, Clinton's Sec. of Commerce, on board in Croatia on April 3, 1996.

to find some truth in so many hot spots before Bush-Cheney set up their next BIG LIE.
