BREAKING: Newsweek Catches McCain In Lie

BREAKING: Newsweek Catches McCain In Lie

Newsweek is reporting that McCain testified in a deposition five years ago that he personally spoke with the CEO of Paxson Communications regarding Paxson's business before the FCC. This flatly contradicts McCain's denial yesterday that he'd had any contact with Paxson or his representatives regarding the matter. Here's the Newsweek link: http://www.newsweek.com/...

McCain flatly denied yesterday that he'd been asked to write a letter to the FCC either by Paxson or his representatives. McCain's campaign continues today to insist that McCain never spoke personally with Paxson or his lobbyists regarding this matter. But here's McCain's own testimony in a deposition in 2002:

Q: "Do you know were they got the information?"

McCain: "No. But I would add, I was contacted by Mr. Paxson on this issue."

Q: "You were?"

McCain: "Yes."

Q: "Can you tell us what you said and what he said about it?"

McCain: "That he had applied to purchase this station and that he wanted to purchase it. And that there had been a numerous year delay with the FCC reaching a decision. And he wanted their approval very bad for purposes of his business.I said I would be glad to write a letter asking them to act. But I will not write a letter, I cannot write a letter asking them to approve or deny, because then that would be an interference in their activities. I think everybody is entitled to a decision. But I can't ask for a favorable disposition for you."

Q: "Did you speak to the company's lobbyist about these matters?"

McCain: "I don't recall if it was Mr. Paxson or the company's lobbyist or both."

Q: "But you did speak to him?"

McCain: "I'm sure I spoke with him, yes."

The deposition was given in connection with a lawsuit by Mitch McConnell that challenged the McCain-Feingold legislation. McConnell's lawyer, Floyd Abrams, was questioning McCain about his efforts on behalf of Paxson in an effort to demonstrate that McCain himself engaged in the kind of lobbyist driven efforts that he purported to abhor.

McCain is in a very tight spot here. Let's see how it develops.

... because it looks like Nader is going to announce he's running Sunday on Meet the Press, the fucking bastard. I don't care what anyone says, it is ALL about his ego, if he cared about the good of the country, he'd realize he can only do it harm by running. Right now, I am hoping McCain gets the nomination, and then this shit all blows up big in his face.

10. Mr. "Straight Talk" Sure Shut It Down Today...
He'll have to hold boooshie style rodeo shows with screened audiences to keep him from having to answer questions.

There was a lot of money made by the selling and trading of public broadcast spectrum in the late 90s and throughout most of the boooosh years and McCain (as well as the GOOP) stood to benefit financially and politically by helping their broadcast and telcom friends. This opens some interesting doors into both McCain's credibility and the use of the government as a cash station for wealth repugnican donors.

Corruption shouldn't be undercut as a big issue this year...it dovetails into virtually every big other issue and could be key in various house and senate races. McCain has tried to play the "maverick"...its time to unmask him as an opportunist.

Here's hoping the Times, Post and others are ready to drop some bombs to back up their stories...and it won't be the sex...just the aphrodisiac of power and money...the ultimate GOOP turn on.

58. But he always has and gotten away with it. And oh, yeah--it tortures him, really.
In "Faith of My Fathers" he devotes one chapter to the Keating affair and how "he was so terrbily hurt by it."

He pretty much states that he had no idea that Keating would expect favors from him when Keating flew him on K's private jet to meet with K and the rest of the 5 (an obvious ethical violation for which he again pled stupid). Then he goes on to whine about how awful it made him feel to realize that he'd been had.

The last page of the NYT article explains this a little better.

Dumb as a shoe, he is.

23. McCain letters written on behalf of Paxson Communications--->McCain and Lowell Paxson were best buds
The desperation shown by those who want to make this story merely about a sexual dalliance, is reflected in the attention now turning to the questioned truthfulness of John McCain's claims of straight-shootin' integrity when it comes to the influence of lobbyists on our government.

McCain is a ringleader in The Gang That Couldn't Keep Their Lies Straight.

John McCain's troubles aren't merely about a possible love affair with this 40-year-old lobbyist.

So McCain not only said it, but he likely read the transcript of his testimony and signed off on it as an accurate record of his deposition testimony.

So which brave MSM reporter will raise this important inconsistency with McCain?

If McCain implodes before their Convention the Republicans get to choose someone that won't fall over at the slightest reportorial breeze. Like Huckamoon. Or Mittens. Or Jeb. Or Gingrich. Or Hatch. All of those people have their own baggage, but McCain is so easy...

brings back memories of Gonzales and others...not good.

In any caser, I can't see McCain winning the GE anyway...whomever the D candidate is, it will be a tidal wave of a victory. The GOP has killed itself off.

Just remember to get out and vote!!!

45. Colin Powell?
Suppose the Repukes sour on McCain and the Huckster can't muster the nomination. A brokered Repuke convention could introduce Colin Powell as their nominee. Then the rabid reichwing bigots would be faced with two blacks as the prime contenders. I'd love to see how they handle that one.

46. It's always the cover-up, isn't it?
What he said in the deposition is not an issue. He was writing a letter asking a government agency to take expeditious action. No problem with that. But to say yesterday that he hadn't had contact when the record shows that he clearly had - and for a reasonable purpose - that's a problem.

she was driven to the drugs and glad she recovered--but the McCain's used the Maricopa county attorney to destroy the whistleblower before he could testify.

47. I will believe the media "get it"
I will believe the media, great pals that they are of Straight-Talkin' Johnny Maverick, actually understand this story when someone says, "It appears that John McCain will say anything to become president." The secret words are "say anything." And I'll bet a five dollar donation to DU that nobody in the big chairs on any of the talk shows* will say those magic words: That John McCain will "say anything" to further his candidacy.

*For example, Tim Russert, George Stephanopolos, Joe Scarborough, Sean Hannity, Anderson Cooper, or Wolf Blitzer. Specifically exempt from this bet are Keith Olbermann and Alan Colmes. Olbermann for obvious reasons, and Colmes because every now and then, in the heat of getting pummeled by Hannity, Colmes will actually bleat out a valid point.

meanwhile we can make a play for a real majority in congress...

110. McCain: "I don't recall if it was Mr. Paxson or the company's lobbyist or both." --- Surely, he
would remember the company's lobbyist.

Q: "But you did speak to him?"

McCain: "I'm sure I spoke with him, yes."

If he said "him", then he would have to mean Paxson, since the lobbyist is a woman.

Or if he was talking about the lobbyist, then he was lying by the use of "him".

111. How Many Roads Must A Man Go Down???? Blowin' In The Wind...
My Friend, THE ANSWER is Blowin' In The Wind!!!

My woman's "intuition" is in SUPER HIGH GEAR this AM, don't EVEN know WHY?? Something, something, something... and it may NOT ONLY be McCain and Repukes! Don't Ask, I CAN'T TELL! I don't KNOW what it is, I'm feeling a little bit "weirded" out today!

"Things" have been going on for so long in D.C. for WAAAAAAY too long! Is a BOIL about to BURST wide open?? Will the camel's back get broken??

I WISH, I WISH, I WISH I could see behind those "closed doors!" I KNOW I SOUND off the wall, but PERHAPS something GOOD will come out of WHATEVER "this" is!!

I'm just writing down what I'm feeling.... too many scary movies?? Don't watch any, just have "lived" in this MORASS of deception for much too long, my suspicions are in over-drive maybe.

I have NOTHING to back up what I'm feeling, I'm just one "Boomer" who has seen so much I don't like going on in this country called America that stinks to high heaven!

Oh, I don't know, I think I better go back to bed and take a mid-morning nap, when I get up again the "feeling" may be gone!
