2. 'bout the same as last year,
maybe a little better actually as it seems to be a tad warmer this winter than last. We are on pace to use in the neighborhood of around 400 bucks total this winter. Of course we use wood pellets and have for I think its been 16 years.

3. Mine is not much different than it was last year, but I've been keeping
the temp down more this year! I keep it at 68° instead of the usual 72°.

4. $12.95
This was last months heating bill and I live in downtown Kansas City. For some reason the temp in my loft does not go down further then 67 degrees. I have yet to turn my heater on. The windows are well insulated and there is a loft above me, underneath me, and on each side. I'm on the 9th floor..

9. Perhaps because you are "borrowing" from the neighbors?
Heat escapes. I suspect that the walls are poorly insulated.

Don't tell your neighbors and you'll get by like this all winter

16. It's the heat rising
I used to live in the top floor of a NYC brownstone -- my radiators were off most of the winter and sometimes I'd resort to opening windows my apartment stayed so warm. It was the heat rising from the other apartments.

5. Heating Bills
In Michigan, I use propane and it is up $.50 a gallon. And we have had a true winter this year.
Nice.

6. Got my stash
We dropped a profit-share check on our oil tank last Spring, and got about 200 gallons for $500 (about $2.50/gallon). Current local heating oil prices are 2.85-3.00, so we feel like we made out like bandits. Nevertheless, the therm stays low and we wear sweaters at home, and find ourselves spending more time down at the warm cozy pub.

7. Moved from Phoenix to Portland, Or last summer
I thought my Phoenix a/c bills were exorbitant, but they were WAY less than my heating bills here, and I keep the thermostat so low that I stay upstairs most of the time where it's warmer. The downstairs is just TOOO cold to take for very long.

8. We put in a high efficiency furnace, thank goodness
We have talked to our neighbors about what they're paying for gas, and the furnace has already paid for itself after only 3 winters.

11. I won't antagonize you.

I live in Central Florida.

But please try and think of me around April some time. I'll turn on the A/C and

probably won't turn it off and open the windows until the end of October.

12. Ours was over $300 last month..
We used 1/3rd less gas compared to last years bill for the same month. I can't imagine what it would have been if the weather had been colder.

14. Exactly...
I use less and keep it off as much as possible when I am at home but it is much higher. I also have noticed a jump in the electricity.

17. if you are on natural gas you are getting screwed
if your bill is appreciably more than last year's for the same amount of gas. Natural Gas markets are not appreciably higher than they were last year...

13. PG&E broke shut of thingy in spring-doesn't matter had no $$ for heat, haven't
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 01:25 PM by fed-up
used my heater all winter

Thank goodness spring is FINALLY here.

Heating my rice sock in the microwave kept me warm during the day and was great to take to bed at night. That and lots of layers of clothing got me through the freezing days and nights.

But heck, it kept my bills in the low $30 dollar range and hopefully at some point I will find a lawyer to get out of this toxic meth contaminated property (not house thankfully) and I can get a roommate to help with bills which is what I had counted on when son moved out...

plus I may get a rebate for having reduced my energy usage from last year :)

edited to add that the $30 monthly bill was for gas-hot water heater (lots of hot baths to raise my core body temp), gas stove and electricity for lights, microwave, toaster, frig and computer

15. We had an unusually cold winter this year
so I've used the woodstove a lot, trying to assist the wheezing 1946 floor furnace.

My highest bill was $84.00. That's actually below my all time highest bill, so I certainly can't complain.

Of course, I've got rooms closed off in addition to using my woodstove. Every little bit helps.

I've had to use the hair dryer to warm up the toilet seat a few times, though. Unheated bathrooms SUCK.

we keep the thermostat at 63, and keep a wood fire going in the fireplace.

22. Very good. We have had a mild winter here in North Georgia.
Since I live in a mobile home, I've been able to get away with just running 2 small space heaters.
