YES! Impeachment Resolution Hearing in WA (state) scheduled for this Thursday! Some DEMS oppose...
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 12:07 PM by RiverStone
I'm thrilled to be living in Washington state, which has scheduled a legislative hearing for this Thursday in Olympia to call on Congress to investigate Shrub's actions that led us into war and consider impeachment. State Senator Eric Oemig has proposed the resolution. Salt Lake Mayor Rocky Anderson is one of the invitees who will be attending to testify in favor of the impeachment resolution; also testifying will be Mary Ann Wright, a retired Army colonel who resigned from the U.S. State Department 3 years ago to protest the invasion of Iraq. Sean Penn may also be speaking on behalf of the resolution. It's well worth clicking on the link (in story) to read the actual impeachment resolution up for debate.

Yet as exciting as this is, surprisingly two of our Washington DEMS who voted against the war (Sen. Patty Murray and Congressman Jay Inslee) are calling to can the hearing citing it will be a distraction! I say we need this hearing which add to the mounting calls to hold the BushCo regime accountable for the tragic and immoral war of aggression in Iraq. Go Senator Oemig!!!

Seattle Times

Sen. Patty Murray and Congressman Jay Inslee are lobbying legislators to cancel this week's hearing on a resolution calling on Congress to investigate and consider impeaching President George Bush. Inslee and Murray, both Democrats who voted against the war, think state lawmakers holding hearings and voting on impeachment is a distraction from what Democrats are doing in Congress, including their efforts to end the war.

Murray spokeswoman Alex Glass confirmed that Murray told Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown last week that the impeachment resolution was a bad idea:

"Senator Murray's message was, 'I have two words for anyone who wants to impeach the President: Dick Cheney.'"
"Jay called and he said, 'Darlene, don't do this,'" said Sen. Darlene Fairley, D-Lake Forest Park. She is chairwoman of the Senate Government Operations and Elections Committee, which is scheduled to hold a hearing on two measures Thursday. One is Sen. Eric Oemig's joint memorial calling for Congress to investigate and consider impeachment of Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. The other is Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles' measure opposing Bush's troop increase in Iraq.

"I said, 'Jay it's all over YouTube. I can't un-ring that bell,'" Fairley said. There are a number of videos posted to the site featuring Oemig and the impeachment measure.

7. I just called her office in DC, and gave them an earful.
Senator Murray took an oath to protect our Constitution.

If she does not support impeachment, then she supports a criminal as president.

She is essentially advocating warrantless wiretaps, kidnapping and torturing terrorism suspects, secret prisons, and lying a country into war.

I told her phone person that if she doesnt wish to uphold her oath of office, then she should resign.

10. They need a lesson from Russ Feingold!
Appreciate you making the call opusprime! :applause: I'll do the same soon.

Did who ever you spoke with offer an explaination?

I'm afraid Patty's wimpy actions are getting a little familiar among DEMS on the Hill that walked a good talk on being anti-war and taking action, though have turned out to be a little too compromising post election.

The voters DEMANDED accountability last November. It was the most compelling issue then and is now. I'm somewhat baffled by Patty and Jay's behavior - seems classically politically safe vs being true to the voters.

They need a lesson from Russ Feingold!

Lets just say that I was much better prepared for the conversation than they were. They had not heard of the article yet.

I asked about her oath of office, and if that meant anything to the Senator. And I asked if she supported a criminal as president.

When I asked why Senator Murray refuses to hold Bush accountable, I got silence.

9. You won't be able to impeach both at the same time. Do Cheney first.
Then Condo will be appointed VP then do her next for her part in all this. Then any one with any part of the regime won't want anything to do with it, then a more moderate VP will be appointed and then get rid of Bush. Then let the war Crimes tribunals start. If your argument is that the country can't be sidetracked with this side show, that doesn't quit wash, we have very broad shoulders I think we can handle the load.
