John Kerry was a war hero too, but that didn't stop Republicans from questioning and even denying his military record.

Remember that.

2. and I think that's the wrong issue to attack McCain on.
it was wrong to attack Kerry on it, and that only succeeded because the MSM gave swiftboaters WAAAAY too much airtime and credence.

No way the MSM would let you do the same to McCain. Better to push him on other things, like wanting MORE war when the majority of american's don' t want that.

14. When he came out in support of Torture, he forfeited the mantle of War Hero.

21. He is a Veteran in support of Torture.
How can he use his service since that about-face? Supporting Torture is a show-stopper. I really don't care what he did in his time of service if he can compromise our soldiers today with that stance.

He disrespected his fellow POW's and those who serve currently. He is disgracing his military history, not I.

3. Sorry, I draw the line at disparaging anyone's military service
Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 10:16 AM by Richardo
Especially if they were in combat. They've all served their country. They're veterans - I'm not.

I'll leave the swift-boating to the shitheads.

6. Nope. Americans.
If they've served, I don't care what party they belong to now, or how much I disagree with them now.

8. Not OK for Democratic veterans to be slandered too.
I didn't have anyone except organizations such as the Swift Liars in mind when I wrote this, just noting the double standard.

This wasn't about me urging an attack on John McCain's record, it was about Right Wing attacking the war records of John Kerry and other Democratic veterans.

9. But McCain specifically requested combat duty
Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 11:20 AM by wuushew
when you actively seek out the opportunity to drop bombs on brown people how is that not blood-lust?

McCain's motivations boil down to only three possibilities.

(a) He loves war related violence
(b) combat missions increased his career advancement potential
(c) his requesting combat missions was a correct and patriotic response to the later revealed huge lie which was the Gulf of Tonkin incident.

:nuke:

12. He put on a uniform and went in harm's way.
His motivations are irrelevant to this discussion. So is his current political affiliation. Disparaging his, or anyone else's, military service is off-limits for me.

There's PLENTY to disparage just looking at his post-military career.

16. And most of his "combat" duty, he flew back to the carriers
until he was shot down & captured.

He did not fight the same war as most the soldiers on the ground! He does not understand what they went thru and wants to fight the current war with more BOMBS. The seems to be his answer to war - "bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran".

Why can no one de-link his current full of shit policies from his military service 35 years ago? That's what I'm talking about.

22. It's like Pete Rose.
Does his gambling on his own team eliminate his phenomonal achievements on the field? No. Does it preclude him from the Hall of Fame? Yes.

4. I'll say that both men were heroes during Vietnam. Difference is, John Kerry
remained an honorable man, and John McCain turned into a steaming shitpile of political opportunism, corruption and war lust.

who were attacking his war record when he was running against boosh - If drug addicted limbo and others attacked McCain and Kerry on their war records, how can "the base" believe them on anything. Clearly they will say anything that suits their desires.
